You're right. Every h/w improvement I've made has made the game
easier^D^D^D^D^D^D less hard. Finally dumping my 'n' year old 14" monitor
(don't laugh) for a 17" Trinitron has made a B I G difference. I can see the
corners now. Some times I even go round them.

I'm still running a 15" monitor with that 400mhz system  I borrowed a 17" from
work, ane it worked yesterday.  Today, it crashed my system and I had to go
back to the 15"(for the Ring race).  I think I need to download some INF's for
this 17"... :(

Eldred:
I loaded your lap and ran it several times, and then ran my best to
compare. Mine is a 3:20 and I was looking for any major differences.
Of course, 3 sec or so in a 3.5 min lap isn't very much, but some
things did jump into focus. First, your controller is superb! Not a
bit of shake, looks very smooth. Second, you go all the way down to
second for Eau Rouge, I am in 4th and many others are, too. makes me
wonder about your gears. There are some other places in the first half
lap where 5th might be better. Third, as others have noted, the line
needs some work. otherwise, not too bad! Cheers, Sam

Well, I can still blame the computer or monitor... :)
You're in *4th* at Eau Rouge?!?  I'd be in the wall(and HAVE been) if I tried
that...

Eldred,

one thing that helps at Eau Rouge (and many other corners in GPL)
is to stay on the throttle in the turns.  If you lift too much,
you induce trailing-throttle oversteer and you just slide off the
track.  Try to grit your teeth and stay on the gas more than you
think you can.  Whatever you do, don't lift completely while you're
turning in.

Hmm... more common than the trailing throttle understeer in my
experience is that in a long corner, if you lift or accelerate slightly
this will unsettle the car slightly causing it to understeer more than
it would have anyway.  Often you can get through a corner faster than
you normally would if you keep a constant throttle (or vary it only
slowly) throughout rather than modulating the throttle during the
corner. Apparently, from some remarks made by JYS this is quite
realistic for cars of the era.
