ISI's new net code - some info

One of ISI's programmers (ISIBaker) has made a surprise appearance over in
the Simbin forums.  The good news is that he describe's the net code in F1
Challenge '99-'02 as head and shoulders above his previous sh*t code, though
still not perfect.

(Cue a Papy-ite pointing out that it's still not up to Papy's standard)

Great Stuff! :)

Could you post the real link though, as the tinyurl + shorterlinks are
blocked here in work? Thanks!

All the best,

"Damien Smith"

We don't have to Damien, because Baker himself points that out in one of
his firsts posts. Hopefully this will help enable more league
participation.  Of course that still doesn't talk about other multiplayer
items like results reporting which every version of an ISI racing sim has
lacked.
fingers crossed tho...

no chance an ISI developer would say this.
This dude really seems to be a fake to me,  he would be fired so fast for
comments like that b4 the game was out.

Why would someone be punished for saying that the game improved
dramatically?  I realize there are non-disclosures, but I don't think
EA is going to get up in arms over free advertising.

Keep reading.  One of the mod developers said that Baker is legit.

Yeah folks who are much more "in the know" than I seem to support him.
I too would be skeptical except for their comments.

Wow.. my biggest complaint about F12002 multiplayer, which is AI players
during LAN and such. And here's the guy's response:

"well, MP AI were on the list... but they didn't make it into F1C."

Why?  If the network code is ok, you can just join an online league.  If
you've got a lonely lan buddy then tell him/her to join the league too...

Its good to have LANs though, makes more of an event out of it.  I miss our
traditional kebab-on-chip......hmmmm kebab :)

Absolutely.  But if the lan is of even a reasonable size, the AI would be
more of a hinderance than a help.

See, I like playing just with my friend doing races. It would be really neat
if we could do a 100% length race with a full field of AI players and see
who comes out ahead. But yeah, good multiplayer is a start.. and joining a
league is a good option too. But why NOT have the option to have AI on the
track at the same time? I"m pretty sure LFS can even do it..

Uhhhh, GPL can do it and it's almost 5 years old!  My buddy and I race over
cable modems using the LAN bandwidth settings.  We play with 19 AI cars and
with the high bandwidth settings, all clients can see all of the cars all of
the time.  Very fun.  My cable modem can handle about 4 clients with these
settings and a full field of AI cars and it's a blast with 4 folks trying to
fight through the AI.  I just CANNOT believe ISI hasn't put that capability
in yet.
It's nice for those of us who don't have time to join league.  For me,
anything less than about 6 cars starts to get lame and that's tough to get
if you're not in a league.
