F1 2002 on Gamespy

Hi all,

Yesterday I tried racing F1 2002 online (Gamespy) for the first time.
Competing cars always flickered in and out of existence on the track,
causing overtaking to be virtually impossible - usually resulting in a
contact when a car suddenly "appeared" in front of me. Is it always like
this with a 56k connection? Can I do anything on my end (detail levels,
etc.) to make the game playable online? Faster connection is not possible,
because of our monopolistic telephone company here in South Africa!

Thanks,
Jacques

There should be a BIG sticker on the outside of the box.."Multiplayer only
possible with Broadband connection."

AND even then it is easy to overload the host and produce the same
results.  I have F1 2001 for the FIA mod and, even tho the 2002 seems to be
an upgrade in almost every area, have passed since the multi on both titles
is soooo bad.

I tried F12002 online through Gamespy a month ago. I have a cable broadband
connection, and still could not compete in a race properly. The only thing I
could do was qualifying, providing no cars got near me. They'd jump all
around, and were impossible to race anywhere near. The races themselves were
disgusting. Everyone piled ontop of eachother on turn 1 at Monza. I just
slowed down, and made it through without incident and lead the rest of the
race until I caught up to some lapped traffice, and got in an accident. Then
gave up.

Maybe it has a lot to do with the fact that everyone seems to be spread out
across the globe? I suppose if you started a race broadband with people in
your general area, the connection rate would be fine?

anyone remember the sentiment that it was the FIA that banned online racing
in f1 sims?
