Does anyone know the low down on the Matrox Milleneuem 3D video card? I
have seen tests in PCGAMER, but I want to know from someone who actually
has used one or owns one. What kind of speed does it give ICR2, GP2, and
Nascar. Also does it use rendition? Thanks.

The Millenium has a few 3D features, but not nearly all of them. Thier
"front-line" 3D card is the Mystique. If you're buying speed for
games, go with that rather than more expensive Millenium. If, however,
you also like the best in Windows preformance, get the Mill. It is (
flame bait starts here :-) ) the undisputed champion for win95 speed,
especially at high color levels.

If you do get a Mill. , you'll need special versions of the software
to use it's 3D features, but hey, there IS a version of NASCAR....

Unless you REALLY need a new card, I would wait before buying any card
based on it's 3D merits. The technology and software are too new, and
standards are still a bit mushy. The 'best' changes from day to day.

The Millenium's 3D was aimed more for Autocad type 3D, and not fast
moving game 3D.

I think the Hercules 128 is faster....

If you want a Matrox card, and you are only concerned about games
performance, get a Mystique rather than a Millenium - it performs
substantially better in the games environment, but is slower in Windows 95
(about a 25% swing either way). The Mystique also supports Microsoft's
Direct3d extensions. The retail version comes with special versions of
MechWarrior2, Sorched Earth (and another game I can't remember) that show
off its capabilities. It is also cheaper than the Millenium, selling for
around UKP110.

I have the Mill card and was wondering about this optimized version of
NASCAR.  If you have more info. about it, please let me know.

The 3D-optimized NASCAR was sold along with the Millenium, in the early
days (not anymore, as I've heard); The Mystique comes along with
Mechwarrior 2, and a bunch of other 3D games, but not NASCAR, and I doubt
Sierra would bother to re-write the code. By the way, my Mystique crashes
W95 everytime I need to play AVI files using MS's ActiveMovie, and now that
I've installed the latest drivers, it crashes EVERY game under W95
(including the customized versions). Any guesses out there?
