> You may have a TV that can do 1920x1080 but most people don't.

uh, no.  but I got a monitor that can do 1800xsomething.

that's the trick you see.  it's not about the hardware getting
outdated, it's about the _games_ getting updated.  developers can push
a console _far_ further than a PC, _because_ they aren't upgradable.

not true.  why do you think almost every game that ever comes out has
hardware issues?  still; while it may not be hard to "benefit", as in
"use", a bunch of different hardware, it's a whole other story trying
to push it to it's full potential.

name one PC-game aimed at a 25+ audience.

"a game like gpl"?  I don't know what that means.

it can be.  still, moving the thing to your desk isn't exactle a full
days work.

You move your TV to the desk or put the desk in front of the TV?
Either way sounds like a pain.

I haven't heard Papy planning to port Nascar 4 to the X-Box.  That depth of
simulation will never be seen on the X-Box.  Where are the serious
simulations on the PS1 / PS2 / N64 / Dreamcast?  There are none.

Over time developers will learn to squeeze more out of the X-Box for sure,
but at the same time, PCs will be getting genuinely faster.

Ok, I meant 20+.

PC games aimed at 20+ audience - GPL, Nascar 4, System Shock2, Thief, Thief
2, Flight Sim 2000, MS Train Simulator, Sim City Series (and all the 50
clones made by other people), Every serious flight simulator ever made,
Shogun, Emperor:Battle for Dune, Age of Empires 2.

Where are the serious simulations for the pc ? :)

As said earlier. WSC is supposed to be released for the x-box.

And what is it with the "depth" of N4 that makes it impossible for a
console with a harddisk and internet connection ?

that's a bold statemenet, if I ever saw one.  it's also a load of
crap, unless you happen to be someone very special.  now give up, or
I'll have to prove you wrong myself. :)

yak yak yak.

look.  NO ONE has advocated a console over a PC for
simulation-purposes.  racing or otherwise.  EVER!  there's not much
point in arguing that it's better to sit at a desk for racing-sims.
and there's not much point in arguing that you'll find better
simulations on the PC than on a console.

because everyone agrees.  but that does not mean that there are no
good games for consoles.  it does not mean that there are no good sims
for consoles.  and it does not mean there are no games for old farts[1]
on consoles.

there are still decent, even very good, racing-sims for around for
consoles.  F355 Challenge, to pick an example, will annihilate most PC
racing-sims any day of the week with both hands tied behind it's back,
while sitting backwards, wearing a blindfold and singing waltzing
matilda.

true, but wether the hardware is genuinely faster or you're just using
it better don't mean a donkey's kidney.

just wait till I get my F355 cabinet, dammit. :)

Yea, but it isn't being done by the West brothers, it's being done by
the guys who made Commanche v Hokum (Razorworks). I expect the X-box
version will be not too much like the PC version (ie. dumbed down).

N4 and GPL are both serious motor racing simulations on the PC.

It's nothing to do with the hardware, X-Box could run N4 fine, but you can't
argue with history.  No sims on the PS1, none on the PS2, none on the
Dreamcast, none on the N64.  These same developers will be writing the X-Box
games.

Dammit Eldred...now you are going to incite the *** buffs.
Bringing GPL into the thread again.
btw...there are pleny of PC games aimed at older audiences.  Both
experienced gamers(racing sims/ flight sims/ war games, masive mulitplayer
games like Ultima Online) and the non experienced older gamers...(bass
fishing, Bambi hunter, the Vegas type games, the tyle type games...etc)

The same developers who failed to write any serious simulations for the PS1,
PS2, Dreamcast and N64 will be making the X-Box games.

You have to be kidding if you think F355 Challenge is even in the same
league as GPL or N4.  I have F355 Challenge,  the AI is poor, the collision
detection and response is really poor and it's very difficult to make the
cars spin, even with all the driving aids off.  I was winning races within 4
hours play on F355 Challenge.  That's the sort of 'Challenge' it offers.

I agree for lots of people the X-Box will be an excellent purchase (I never
said otherwise), but as I said, if you are *already committed to PC
ownership* (meaning you need to have a fast PC but not for games), then
given that most X-Box titles will also appear on the PC, what's the point?
