N2 Patch: Blown engine

Okay, the patch works great, except I have a problem.  I tried to use the
save game feature at Martinsville.  Then I got back into it and it prompted
me to restore the game.  I said yes and it took me back to the game.  All
of the sudden, there was a BOOM and my spotter said "You blew the engine."
Why does it do this?  Is there any reason for this?

I guess that's what I get for saving it right before I went into turn 3!

Sam did you pause the game before you saved it?Or did you save the game
while accelerating. You might have missed a shift :).I have used the save
game feature several times and have not had this problem.

I got the same problem.

I saved right after qualifying.

When I restored the race. My only option was to RACE. It skipped Warmup.

When I raced, I noticed that my tire PSI readings were from my RACE
setup
but my gearing (red line rpm point) was the same as my QUALIFY setup.

Not good....

I haven't checked, but when I sent a Papy rep some e-mail about the
tire temps not be restored across the tire, his reply led me to believe
that the "gear" didn't make the patch either.  There was a "fixed"
version, but it appears that the "incomplete" one made the release of
the patch.  Sounds like it your game is saved with a low gear.  Try
saving while sitting in the pit or on a yellow lap instead and see if it
works any better.

I found this was a problem also at Talladega (I Think).

The way to overcome it is to qualify, then click on next session twice
(assuming you don't want to do the warm up).  Then leave the track and save
the game.

When you return to race it will have your correct race setup.

No I didn't pause it before I saved.  I use auto shift and was in fourth
gear so I couldn't have possibly have missed a shift.

Turned out the gear did make it into the save file after all.  There could
be some other problem which is causing some people to have gear trouble
when restoring, though I haven't personally seen it.

One alternative which I believe will work is if you set up auto-shifting
prior to restoring the race, when you restore race you'll be on auto-shift
and hence you'd be able to avoid any potential problem.  If you blow your
engine during a restore and you want to continue the race, try that with
the same saved race.

Another item on saved races which a couple people have asked about is how
to avoid deleting a saved race when you want to run at the track without
resuming a saved race.  When you're presented with the "Restore Race (Yes,
No, Cancel)" dialog box, if you select CANCEL, you'll be starting a new
weekend WITHOUT deleting the old saved race.  You'll only delete the saved
race if you select NO at that prompt -
