GPL and MX300: Distorted sound

by mick ta » Fri, 08 Jan 1999 04:00:00

I've had an AWE32 before the Diamond MX300 and it has worked fine with
GPL. After installing the MX300, sounds became distorted (a'la sizzling
bacon).

Has anyone had this problem and have come up with a solution?

No sizzling bacon for me, but definite cracks/pops using the mx300.
I've been reading in the soundcard newsgroups - others share some of the
same problems with the mx300. I think the consensus is that the drivers are
immature, and this is something that could be fixed with updated drivers.

One thing I did try however is to unpack the 'sound.dat' file in GPL, and
listen to some of the .wav sounds. I don't notice any distortion playing
them outside the game.

I hope new drivers are the answer because performance of the joystick port
has improved overall GPL performance for me tremendously.

GPL and MX300: Distorted sound

I get the cracks and pops with both my MX300 and Monster M80 card. MX300 did
solve the problem of distorted sound with M80 when driving in a race. I
called tech support for sierra and asked them about and they said they were
aware of the problem but did not have a fix for it.
