Hi all,
Haha, it's fixed. Many thanks to you all. Reducing the hardware acceleration
in DXDIAG to basic acceleration has cured the distorted sound. There doesn't
seem to be any reduction in sound quality or frame rate in GPL either which
is welcome. Also, luckily, you don't have to reboot the PC after adjusting
the hardware acceleration, so I can just reduce it when I want to run GPL
and then when I've finished just put it back up to full acceleration again
without any reboots required.
I am so, so glad that I have found a cure for this problem. I hope it works
the same for everyone else as well.
Many thanks once again
Russell
