Recently I managed to view a 1 hour recap of the recent prodution-
car version of the Bathurst 24hr race.  Here in the States, the Subaru WRX Sti
and the Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 8 are two really well received cars.  Most
test results put them very even on peformance. (Suby-more hp but more
weight) Mitsu(lighter, barely quicker twitchy)  Race results don't tell
the full story of a 24hr event, but the top car from each manufactuer
finished next to each other. (WRX/Evo/WRX)
The rally looking cars are even said to rival some of the faster production
V8 Mustangs in quarter mile times.  But that 300hp seemed very
limited compared to some of the other cars running the event.  I would
guess the Two cars did well on the mountain top, but the two long
straights buried the turbos.  There were even some Toyota Celicas(called
Altezza's down under it seems)
Any Aussies who were there with some insight on how well these cars
did?

It was on the TV coverage that they were called Altezza's.  The Bathurst website
(which I went to AFTER I made the post) < :)  >  had them listed as
Celicas too...wierd.

AFAIK, the Altezza is the Bimmer knock-off known as the Lexus IS300 to the
U.S. market.

There were two Toyota Celica's and one Toyota Altezza in the race. The two
Toyota Celica's finished in 16th and 21st position and the Toyota Altezza
finished 24th.
