GRAND PRIX MANAGER : is that a driving sim or what ?

Hi

I saw this game being quite popular
and not quite sure what to make of it.

Is it about driving and do you actually get
a chance to drive ?

or is this something like SIMcity ?
SIM GP :-)

No, you don't drive yourself, but you can call the shots from the
pits.

Sort of.  It's a resource-management type of game with F1 cars.  In
the game, you are the owner/manager of a Formula 1 team (hence the
title).  The only thing is that it is riddled with niggling little
bugs and other annoyances that hurt the otherwise good concept.  It
very much has the feeling of being incomplete, like a beta version.
It's like it was rushed out the door before it was finished (and it
probably was).  That aside, I thought it was an amusing game and
killed many hours with it.  Never before have I played a game that was
at once so frustrating that you wanted to throw the whole thing out
the window, and yet have that "just five more minutes" quality that
will keep you coming back.

The suspense is terrible. I hope it will last.

It is a management simulation (similar to the type of Soccer manager game
that Brits seem to like) and unless you are into that genre you'll dislike
it.
No...you don't get a chance to drive.

Not only the British. I think Football (that's how the game is called..)
managing is popular all over Europe

That's right, but I feel that GP manager has by far not the quality that the
well-known football manager games such as Ultimate Soccer manager and Premier
Manager have. I think that race-management games form quite a new genre and
need much work till they get on the same level the Footbal managers have
evolved to (since it all started with Footbal Manager on the good-old C64 in
the early 80s...)

Premier Manager a quality soccer management game? I played the 97/98
and thought it was horrible micro-managing that had nothing to do with
football. Ever tried CM3 (yes, I know it doesn't have graphic
matches)?

First I want to win the Premiership on CM 97/98 with English small team
Barnet :-) I'm almost there......

Come on Graheme some things are getting a bit far fetched here.
If you was a genuine hard core simmer, you would be going with Aldershot.
They are going places man hehe

You are in the position of a team owner/manager and can decide on
personnel, resources, technic, car set-up, race strategy, etc - but you
have no chance to dirve the car.

No, but I'm no kind of ***ed to Ultimate soccer manager, which is the best
manager game I've ever played. By the way, has anyone experience with Co
Adriaanse football manager (or is it only available here in Holland)

Hmm... The thought of making Borgey lose his job is tempting :-) But
it's either gonna be Arsenal, Barnet or Bromley.... My 3 fave teams!
