Viper Racing - Stuttering Graphics

by Larr » Wed, 13 Jan 1999 04:00:00

Folks,

I have a new problem that showed up out of no where...

My Viper Racing used to be very fluid and smooth.  No temporary frame
freezes, jerks, etc....

Now, it has a horrible problem with video stuttering.  It gets so bad, I
blow corners almost constantly.  It'll freeze for 1/4 sec just before I
set up for the damned corner, and when the video starts moving again,
I'm already into it!

It also does it on straights, not just the corners, and it's worse when
in traffic.

Nothing has been added or deleted from the system.

Could this be an effect of the new defragmentation system in Win98?

Pentium II 300Mhz
Monster 2 12MB
128MB RAM
TM Nascar Pro wheel

Short of reinstalling Win98 (yet again), any idea's?

I've already tried killing off all the stuff in the taskbar and startup
folder.

Thanks!

-Larry

Larry - I get that too from time to time and I think it's a cache thing.
I've nearly the same system as you (64Mb Ram) and exiting/restarting the
game clears this up.  A drag, eh?  Let me know if you find it to be
something else.

Make sure everything in the back ground is off. Do a Ctrl-Alt-Del and end
task on all programs except Explorer and Systray.

Unfortunately, I get it right from the start, continuously.  It almost
feels like there is something going on in the background on the system,
but as far as I can tell I've killed everything off...

Thanks!

In case I didn't make myself clear, it _used_ to run fine on my machine
as well.

Thanks!

I've pretty much done that, but I will try that again.

Thanks!

Tb
hanks for the input :)

I have narrowed the problem down to a background process.  I just have
to figure out which one :)

I think it's one of the HP Printer Driver doohickeys.  I should be able
to isolate it down this weekend.

Thanks!
