F1 2002 - DirectX problems

by RocketMa » Fri, 28 Feb 2003 16:00:20

  My system specs:- PII 450, 512MB, Leadtek Geforce2 MX400 (64MB), Voodoo II
(12MB), DirectX 8.1 (4.08.01.0901), nVidia 12.41 drivers, Win 98.
I know that the above is the bare minimum to run EA's F1 2002, but I want
to try GTR2002!!
I am having problems running F1 2002, as when I start the program it
performs the graphics setup, and then ends with the message "CUBE 3D Setup
cannot be run on this computer. No DirectX 8 video adapters found. Please
contact your video card vendor for updated drivers."
I have updated my drivers to the latest(?) from nVidia (41.09), but still
receive the same message. Is my Geforce2 MX card not DirectX 8 compatible?
Would it be any use trying to run the program on my laptop (P4 2.53, 512MB,
GeForce4 420 Go)?
Has anyone else experienced a similar problem?
Thanks in advance for any help/advice.

go to start/run then type dxsetup.  Check to see if your directX is
enabled.  Sometimes the buttons are backwards.  So press it a few times and
let it toggle to the 2nd option...try running 3dconfig again.  If it still
doesn't work once again press the button to the 1st choice(enable/disable)
and try it again.  For some reason dx gets shut off occaisionally.

Thanks for the advice, Dave. You were exactly right, of course!
Now to see how good this game is...
  Thanks again.
