What next for Mr. Noonan??

by MichaelJ » Sat, 05 Feb 2000 04:00:00

My ideas for Mr. Noonan's next masterpiece are:

Montlhery (complete with banking)
Rheims - should be easy, but cool for online racing
Solitude - top twisty sections
Pescara (OK this could be a bit long)

Any other votes?

- Michael

The GPL AI have trouble with bankings, so it would be good for
hotlapping or online only.

Hmm, like Spa without it's famous corners and elevation changes, but 2
hairpins?

From the historic French circuits, I'd prefer Clermont-Ferrand. A real
challenge.

Yes, the 18 snake-like corners in Mahdental are unique.
Plus the steep uphill "Misery" section and the speedy part to Bsnau.

After Mr. Noonan released the O-Ring, I downloaded the maps+text that
I had contributed to Darren Galpin's excellent "Tracks Around The
World" in order to suggest it as one of the next tracks.
I hope I can improve and expand the files and infos to lure Mr. Noonan
into re-creating that classic 11.5km track on public roads.

One of the Targa Florio versions is probably also too much to ask for.

Le Mans - Bugatti.
It's not the famous 24h circuit (it's used for the bike 24h though),
it was called a Micky-Mouse track, but it was part of the real 1967
season and thus deserves to be in GPL.

ERRRRRR that's impossible due to the copyrights with the original Monza. I

If we can't have ICR3, at least we could drive those great tracks with
a '67 Ferrari...

Goodwood will be our next effort after Snetterton.  Pescara and
Clermont-Ferrand are the other tracks I'd like to make, but I don't
think the fellow GPLEA'ers are keen :-(

Matthias, do you have a website with info about this track? I don't know
it, but it seems like a great track.
I'd like to make it in GP2, perhaps. although, in that case, the track has
to be shortened somewhat because of the 7.8km tracklength limit.

I would like to see some of those great tracks from GPL in N3. Like Kyalami
in a stock car! Or better yet (ok here it goes) MOSPORT!!!! If Dave never
did another thing he has made these sims much more than they were ever meant
to be for me already. Thanks Dave.

Eh well ;)

Track likeness and name are the propriety of the owners of that same track.
You per example cannot create a 2.5mile Superspeedway with a tri-oval and
rename it "Florida Speedway", with different graphics.  That would probably
be the limit of what's legal and not.

Actually you could fight in court about the "likeness", if it only includes
specs from the track diagram or the surroundings of it.  You could change
simply the stretch banking a couple of degrees, same for the radius of the
corners, how large the track is. hmm

As for Monza, creating anything like the Oval + Road course is definitely
against the likeness of the track.  In a court you would loose.

But why is this any different for the Monza oval/road course than any
other track? Can't see why copyright should be the reason not to do it,
as copyrighting of the track didn't stop Dave from making Brands Hatch
or ?sterreichring (I very much doubt Dave got the licence from these
tracks to make copies...). In fact since Papy already has the licence
for the use of Monza in GPL, I see fewer problems with making that, than
any other real track...
