What next for Mr. Noonan??

No. I plead guilty.
But I should be able to fix that, or at least send mails.
I've got to work and travel, though, so I'm usually at the wrong
places.

It is.   Or was. :-/
Then, www.stuttgart.de offers a clickable "Stadtplan" map that
includes the main part of the Solitude on the westernmost edge of the
track. I've started to add the pieces together some night ago.
And of course, I have real street maps of Stuttgart at home, a magazin
article and even an old programm from the 60s.

Because the Solitude was rather forgotten, I developed a small
interest in it, just like for the Ring, but I never made a serious
attempt to collect stuff.
A detailed map should be available somewhere to get the elevations
right. For the driving impression, a video or mpeg would be good.
But I don't have equipment nor experience in that.

And, the Solitude is right between the places I live, so I can drive
there quite often. ;-)

Ah yes, I remember that limit. Made the Ring totally impossible.
I tried once to erase the chicanes in Hockenheim, but failed.

Does anyone else see the similarity to the Indy F1 track? You know, try
to create interest for the F1 race by taking a famous track/race and
then using a crappy parklot track, so only the name of the race lives up
to the real track...

The Indy F1 track is going to give new definition to the term "Mickey
Mouse".

Well, Bruce, I have to disagree on the "temporary": it's still there.
Sorry.
It might have caused a shock that took 20 years to overcome, but F3000
raced there from 1987 on, some Motorbike GPs very held there, and the
24h race for bikers is still there.
Plus national events and racing schools.

Eg. comparing it to the infamous Caesas Palace parking thingy would
not be fair. Bugatti is a short safe track that's perfect for many
kinds of racing.

I hope the flying Mercedes acts of 1999 does not make the organizers
move the 24h for cars there, though.

1st) copyrights are to be enforced by the owner. So you can do anything you
want, but the actual trackauthority is the only one who can make a fuss
about it. That makes it easy for no-longer existing tracks. But I know a
Daytona project for Nascar1 got cancelled after threats of the Daytona
speedway corp for legal action against this team. A commercial project is
much more likely to get attention , than a 3rd party addition like Noonan's
or the 400 tracks that were recreated for GP2.

2) The fact that Papy has the rights for Monza hasnothing to do with a 3rd
party making a Monza track. Papy is, after all, NOT making this Monza
track, so they are not a party in this.

3) you are using part of copyrighted material (the Monza.DAT file) if you
use the Monza-track of Papyrus as a base of your track. You cannot
redistribute converted tracks (N3 -> GPL) either for this reason.

Law school continues tomorrow :-)

I know it is not the right track but I would like the Le Mans 24 hour track
with the long straight. As the real race in 1967 was on the short carpark
track at Le Mans I think this would fit in fairly well.

I must throw my opinion in the ring here, Matt, by saying that no, it
doesn't "deserve" to be in GPL.
Why?  Well, apart from the fact that it was a diabolical little  _temporary_
creation it was only ever used once for a French GP.  Therefore even the
promoters of the day understood that it didn't even deserve to be inflicted
on driver and spectator alike, ever again! :-)

Phil, if you do Goodwood, please consider providing a cover image from one
of the recent Goodwood Revival programmes.
As the 3-litre cars never raced there in anger it would be a neat way or
"getting around" the historical aspect for nit-pickers like moi! :-)
