You may want to look at the ECCI Competition Driving System if you have
the level of interest and the means to purchase a true automotive quality
system. The web address is:

HTTP:/OURWORLD.COMPUSERVE.COM/HOMEPAGES/EXTREME

The CDS is one of only a very few driving control systems which supports
the separate and simultaneous application of gas and brake modeled in GP2.
Also, if you are interested in NASCAR performance, many of the very top
level drivers on the Hawaii multiplayer node have been using the CDS for
many hours a day for well over a year with no trouble or failures of any
kind.

If interested, check out the web site or E-mail us for more info.

Using control driven calibration my Mad Catz controller can handle
simultaneous application of gas and brake.  It cost me half what a T2
costs.  I can dab the brake in a corner, leaving the gas full down and
slow the car without unsettling it through a corner I have overjudged.
Using standard calibration (ie emulating a joystick) this doesn't work.

Am I reading the abilities of the CDS wrong?

I'd like to draw your attention to the TSW (Thomas Super Wheel). For
more details visit my (German) website:

Have a look at Sim Racing News
(http://sneezy.dcn.ed.ac.uk/simnews/index.htm) where you can find
reviews of all the tops controllers.

Not knowing the specific wiring scheme of the Mad Catz controller I am not
able to definitively explain to you wether your controller follows the
scheme of most, but... most current controllers use gas and brake pedals
linked on the same axis, namely the Y axis of joystick one, the steering
being the X axis(including the T1/T2 and TSW). When you look at your
calibration screen this should be clear if your pedals are active on the
same joystick as the wheel. If so, then the effect of stabbing the brake
when leaving the gas applied is indentical to the effect obtained by just
lifting the gas for the same amount and duration for when the pedals are
electrically linked. This kind of configuration does not enable
simultaneous application of gas and brake as would a separated axes
design.

Excuse me but the TSW has the option of either configuration, it can be
either a single or dual JS by flipping a toggle switch.

Thank you,
If the TSW has such a switch, I stand corrected.
