GPL: Cry Havoc, and let slip the Voodoo Banshee

Nope, not a cheery post--just wondered if anyone else had had ***
experiences trying to install a Banshee card.  My Quantum 3D Raven (PCI)
will not let me get higher than 640 X 480 on the desktop (except in
16-color, *16*--not 16 million).  This also happened with Diamond's Monster
Fusion.

I did revert to the Standard VGA Adaptor prior to installing, as
instructions indicate.

Oh well, perhaps back to the Voodoo 2.

I know this sounds stupid but are you _SURE_ that you remembered to
put new drivers in place when you fired up the machine again.  It sounds
awfully like you're STILL running the standard VGA adaptor drivers and
you haven't actually put in the drivers for the new card.  You can check
this by looking in Control Panel system under display adaptor.

And of course you should get the latest drivers from the web site.
The early Banshee drivers were a bit flaky.

Have you setup your monitor as a Plug'n Play monitor (or as your particular
monitor if listed), if you use "unknown" monitor the Banshee will not let you
use more colors at higher resolutions, took me while to figure that one out,
makes little sense to me, but it has worked on all the PC's we have built with
the Creative Banshee card so far

Beers and cheers

I had exactly the same problem, only worked at 640*480 and 16 colors. If I took
out my sound card the Banshee worked perfect, so apparently it collided somehow
with my old ISA Soundblaster sound card. I bought a new sound card Creative Labs
PCI128 and now the Banshee works perfect.

/Christer, try removing your sound card...
