I risk a bet:  You are still dreaming!
I bet 5 bucks that you need at least an MMX266+   ;-)

best wishes

dream on...

as I understand it, the software needs to be written to use the new MMX
instructions. As gp2 is not going to be patched, let alone re-written, I
would have thought the chances of a speed improvement are remote.

P200....WOW.
Try running GP2 on my P60....a P200 is a dream for me!  25+ fps, I am
lucky to get 12/13 fps with every graphic turned off!  Still, GP2 is a
great sym though.  I am saving and waiting for the price of Pentiums to
drop $$$, then I get MY P200  ;-)

Drive on.....Jammer UK

You're currently dreaming !

P200 MMX Gateway - 32 Mo RAM -4 Mo video RAM

15 fps all details on
19.2 fps (no sky)

Isn't that game playable at those frame rates ? I personaly find it good to
play like that.
When I can play at 25.6 with my P350 MMX DFRTD, it will be a good surprise
!!!

Well the increase in level 1 cache size (& a couple of other tweaks)
on the MMX processors seems to be giving people a general speed
improvement of about 10% on non-MMX software so all is not lost.

P6 running at 233MHz 32Mb EDO with Rendition Verite 4M EDO Video (GP2
currently does not take advantage of this chip) using Fastvid and other
optimizations, I was able to run at 25.6 fps with some details off (notably
sky) and medium objects. The processor occupancy varied from 60-80% to over
130% when viewed from outside.

Conclusion: For GP2, think P6. Forget Pentium with or without MMX.

We are not talking a Super Chip here.  If you have a P166 or P200 you
may not even see enough of an increase to notice the difference with the
*** eye.  Your
software may be able to give you some indication that it is drawing frames
quicker, but the 10-15% gain by using an MMX chip on non mmx programs will
not really stand out and kick you in the butt.
The new AGP coupled with a Ppro and MMX may be a flashlight at the end
of the tunnel, but for now, GP2 is running about as well as possible.  You
can't use 3d accelerators(and you won't in the future either) all you can
hope for is a hardware breakthrough.

What exactly does FastVid do, and are there any problems with it??
BTW, where can i find it?
