Got ICR II, questions to Rick Genter.

by Martin Guillemet » Sun, 26 Nov 1995 04:00:00

I just bought ICR2 (got it Friday Night) and so far it is a
total BLAST!

But i have some questions to Rick Genter:

1- Where is Jaques ? I can't beleive you would forget to
include the actual Champion of the serie :). I suppose there
is just legal stuff behind the fact that he is not represented
   in the game !?

2- The Paintkit runs in VGA mode. Isn't there a loss of pixels
when you map the cars in SVGA ? So will there be a SVGA Paintkit
in the future ? With Win95 perhaps ?

3- The breaking model seems to have included the locking of wheels
( if you break too hard, you lock the wheels and slide),
   am i right ?

4- You talked about a coupon for Windows95 users to get the Win95
version free (apart from Delivery) when it shipes, there was none
in my box. Has the policy changed ?

5- Do you have an idea of when the Multiplayer Service at Papyrus
   will be on-line ?

and THANK YOU for brigning us the best racing simulation EVER!

I have one more question for Rick:
There are many of us who paid the full retail price for IndyCar Racing when it first came out and then also purched the Indy add-on and
the 7 track expansion.  Any chance of Papyrus offering a special upgrade price on ICR2 for those loyal customers who have already
shelled out big bucks?

Big Bucks? I don't know what it costs in the USA, but I reckon the
prices over here in the UK (say UKP35) are very reasonable for the
development that has gone into the game. The tracks will have been
updated I guess - I doubt they're wholey new - but I still can't see
any reason to justify an 'upgrade' for existing owners I'm afraid. Not
at these price levels. MS Word/Excel etc I'll grant you, but not a
very reasonably priced game.

Stuart.

Are you dense? Actually you get all the tracks and a paint
kit in the ICR2 box, so consider that your "special" deal.
Otherwise, get a job and a life.

Well...considering ICRII is a total rewrite, I have to agree with your
reply, harsh as it it is...HOWEVER...the original post presents a valid
question to us NASCAR owners.  The significant improvements in ICRII
frame rate and AI, (GREAT JOB, Rick and TEAM) most definitely warrant
and 'upgraded' NASCAR...we can only hope that these improvements can be
imported SOON, via patch if practical, if not, then I would hope that
NASCAR I owners get a SUPER 'trade-up' option for NASCAR II.

Licensing.

<<<

The VGA paintkit gives you access to every pixel of car texture. You
aren't losing anything. On the other hand, wait until you see the Windows
95/Macintosh paint kits. Breathtaking!

3- The breaking model seems to have included the locking of wheels
( if you break too hard, you lock the wheels and slide),

<<<

Yes and no. The wheels don't actually lock, but you can slide.

<<<

There was no coupon, but the policy has not changed. DOS purchasers will
be able to obtain the Windows 95 version for a nominal fee when it is
released.

5- Do you have an idea of when the Multiplayer Service at Papyrus
   will be on-line ?
<<<

Nope.
