V330 & STB Velocity= interchangeable drivers??

by Mikes Design » Tue, 13 Jan 1998 04:00:00

 Hi all,
I read in the Dec. issue of Boot Magazine that the V330 & STB Velocity
were so similar that they can run each others drivers. Is this true? Has
anyone tried it yet? The reason I ask is I see folks with the V330 say the
flashing problem is cured in CPR D3D mode now and  I sure would dig it if
it were cured on my STB too> Its not too bad and even non existent on some
tracks but still bad on some if not all ovals. Please let me know if you
have tried it. I am on the phone as I write this to ask STB although I
pretty well know what their response will be when I ask if I can use
diamonds drivers on their card hehe. Aloha, Mike

I actually tried this a while back myself, thinking it might clear up the
flickering.  If I recall correctly, the automated install definitely will not
work.  It first looks for the Diamond card.  If it's not there, you can't
continue.  A manual installation using the install temp files might be
possible, but I didn't bother (I'm also running a 3dfx and was just playing
around with the 128).

I've heard a number of reports that adjusting your monitor refresh rate to 120
Hz will fix it.  Though I never tried that, I DID get rid of the flickering by

very cool little utility, btw...  Check it out at:

Although this did get rid of the flickering, the graphic quality at that
particular refresh rate is not quite right...I can't really describe it.  It
almost looks interlaced, but not quite.  The Powerstrip does give you a lot of
settings to experiment with, though...  If I didn't have a 3dfx to fall back
on, I'd definately be using this thing for CPR!

Have fun,
Sean
