I've been seeing a lot of CUBE errors when I go to specific tracks. I can't
recall where, but I read that one method of getting around this problem is
to not use 1024x768 resolution in D3D - not sure why, but it worked for me.
As well, I've noticed that the Advanced Options changes the \DAT\Scene.mas
(perhaps for changing the stickiness of the grass). I put the original
Scene.mas back in the \DAT directory, and I also got around this problem
(but still have sticky grass).
Not sure if this is the cause, but there are two different scene.mas files.
The 1.551 patch readme has instructions to extract all the patch files
(including scene.mas, spcar.osc, altn.mas, and altw.mas) to the SCGT
directory (not the \DAT and \MAS subdirectories that the original files are
located in). Subsequent use of the advanced options editor results in
changes to the original scene.mas in the \DAT directory. As well, later
addition of the new track involves insertion of files into the
\DAT\scene.mas file. I wonder if the 2 different scene.mas files could be
causing any problems - which file takes precendance?
I've probably added more confusion than helped - I'll try isolate the
problem in an orderly fashion later.
