Will GPL works with TNT video cards?

by Phili » Sat, 13 Nov 1999 04:00:00

I can't seems to make it using 3d Hardware acceleration. I'm only allowed to
use software mode.

Anyone out there able to make GPL works with a TNT cards?

If possible can you reply by E-mail coz I'm only able to come in to this
newsgroup at home. But I can access my E-mail at works.

I'll appreciated if you guys can help me out with this problem.

Anyway, I've just bought this game and if it's still not going to work, than
I've got no choice but to return this game. But somehow I really like the
game play.

Thanks in advance for helps.

Philip,

First download the beta openGL driver from http://www.papy.com. While
you are at it, you should download the new 1.2 patch as well. Follow
the directions to install both. Then fire up GPL. I run mine with
Creative TNT2 at 800x600 with everything turned on, the only "bad"
things are the mirror images, they are pretty much useless due to bad
openGL coding (per papy). Other than that, it works great.

Hi Jazz, thanks for your info. I've D/L the openGL files and the 1.2 patch.
It indeeds works. Somehow i find that the rear mirror is pretty ok for me.
Maybe its just that i couldn't concertrate on the rear mirror ( Mostly
looking at the front coz since i couldn't handle the front properly, how can
i manage to handle the back.. hehe )

Anyway, it's a very nice game. Work greats with my Logitech FF wheel. But 1
things that is too complicated for me is the car setup. :(

Anyway usefull information on car setup for me?

Best Regards.
Philip.

Philip,
Try this site for some setup ideas. GPL is my favorite game now, it
does consume massive amount time though...

Yes, ignore it.  The default setups are pretty good and are all you'll need
for a while till you learn the tracks and get the feel of the cars.
When you do want to experiment with setups but don't want to develope them
yourself there are tons of GPL sights that have setups you can download.
For starters you should go here: http://simracing.com/alison/gpl/
for some really good info on how to best setup your FF wheel in GPL.

The mirror refresh rate is fine by default, but the frame rate (alt-F)
sucks, because the OpenGL function used to copy to the mirrors is slow.
It's hard to drive GPL without a solid, fast frame rate.

As stated in the README included in the OpenGL patch, you can use the
MirrorsEvery entry in your core.ini file to reduce the mirror refresh
rate.  This will make the mirrors look worse, but increase your frame
rate, which is more important.  When using my TNT, I set it to 8, which
makes the mirrors look horrible, but which gives me a solid 36 fps at
1024x768 except at the start of the race.
