My Pro Dig 2 died tonite (sort of), so I went out and bought another one.
At the same time, I decided to get N2K3 since it was so cheap $10...

Now - my problem is - I'm getting crappy framerates (9-12 avg) with all
details set to minimal.  I was getting a consistant 28-30 with N3 using the
30.82 NVIDIA drivers.

So what version is best for N2K3?  I've got the 7 other drivers released
after that...

To be perfectly honest - I'm looking for a shortcut so that I only have to
install ONE driver that will improve the fr's wtihout having to re-boot the
machine 10 gazillion times before finding either a) the one that does work,
or b) 30.82 is the best it's going to get...

Any replies would be appreciated.  E-mails will be bounced however, as my
e-mail addy IS NOT a valid one to ward off the silly spammers.  :-)

"DJSpeedy"

what kind of hardware do you have.  Nr2k3 is a huge step up in required
computing power.  Your cpu and video card may just not be up to nr2k3.
So, what is your cpu and speed, your video card and how much system ram are
we talking about..

As far as drivers are concerned it seems that the 45.23 are the latest
"working" ones, with the 50.xx versions you'll get problems in GPL and F1C,
dunno about N2K3 though....

My specs are P3 500mhz, 384mb ram, 32mb TNT NVIDIA Ultra 2...someone told me
that they were getting 40fps on a lesser system than mine...so that's why I
ask the question...

I do exceed the "minimum" requirements though...:-)

If he was getting 40 with those specs, then I'd guess it was online with
only 1 or 2 other cars.  I recently rebuilt a p3 sytem with leftover parts
with a Gf3 and no way would it run nr2k3 well.  I'd guess it is perfect for
N3, since that's what I used to run N3 on, but anything more and you will
see the age of the system starting to show.
I've never met the guy who sets 'minimum' standards, but boy he must be
easy to please.  LOL.

45.23's aren't any good...still in the 10-12fps range...

I'm thinking it may be the vid card causing the bottleneck...

But if I'm gonna buy a new vid card, might as well get the whole system to
go with it, right?  :-)

yup...a new flashy vidcard will just sit there waiting for the P3 to
catch up.

My main system is a P4 3.0ghz with an R9800pro but my second system is a P4
1.8ghz with a GF4 Ti4200 and I always stick with the Nvidia 30.82 drivers as
they are rock solid and I use this system for older games that don't need
the latest drivers. The newer drivers are really intended for the latest
Nvidia vid cards that have features your vid card doesn't even have. I say
stick with 30.82 unless you are really into experimenting to see if you gain
an extra frame or two, but I *really* doubt the 30.82 drivers are causing
the slow frame rates. Make sure FSAA is set to manual and off in the desktop
properties.

Thanks for all the responses.  After trying everything from 30.82 on up, I
found that I got on average around 20fps with the 30.82's and tweaked ini's
on the roadone course, which I read was notoriously slow for lower
computers.  But the track seemed to do well for me, but then I had all the
eye candy off as well.  :-)

Now to see what fr's I get on the other tracks...lol!
