Couple of things regarding Nascar Multi player

by JungleDa » Mon, 27 May 1996 04:00:00

I have been racing Nascar for about 2 years, well really about 1 years
since I upgraded my 386 to a P120 :-).  Almost every week a buddy and I
race.  Last week I downloaded the beta of MP 1.33.  Now I realize that it
was mostly intended for the big races coming out of the Boston server, but
I understand that it can be utilized for simple multi races.  Some day
this past week I read that in racing via MP, that all functions of Mp
would be available during one on one races.  However I have experienced
the following problems and or questions:

#1   During qualifying both my phone opponent and I are in the same stall
at start up, which as you can guess causes <smash> an accident in the pit.
We have worked around this by one of us starting to qualify about 10-15
secs after the other.  Is this a bug or is there something that we are
missing???

#2   Once during a race I smacked the outside wall (intentionally) on the
front straight at C***te.  (I wanted to see the tow thing at work).
Well the tow came, but as it pulled me from the outside wall to the apron,
it pulled me through the pit wall <smash> causing body parts to fly off of
my car.  It then pulled me down pit row and around the track again without
incident.  Bug?  I thought that the towed cars were suppose to be
"invisible" but my opponent could still see me..... ??????

#3  What is with the spotters?  Are they available in MP or just in the
Boston Server races????  Haven't seen or heard from them yet.

#4  The damage bar that shows on the F9 key when in the pits is a neat
little feature and is the time to complete counter.  But the two do not
seem to jive as repairs are being completed.

#5  Where is version 2.5 of Hawaii?  I've looked in the Sierra web site
and they are only posting version 2.49.

So if anyone knows a little more about these or other things happening
when using Multi.exe when racing please post or send the to me.  Seems not
much is being said about this use....

Thanks in Advance

I've run into this as well, seems to be a bug. We usually just take turns
qualifying so if one driver messes up, it won't bother the other (as it
should be).

Seen this one too.

They aren't available in modem races. And they haven't been very reliable
on the MP service either.

Don't know about this one.

It downloads automatically when you log on to Hawaii. I thought I remember
someone saying that the file descriptions at the web site were not entirely
accurate.

I don't think this is a bug; I think this is trying to use the multiplayer
software in a way that was not intended. MULTI.EXE is client-only NASCAR;
by using it in a two-player configuration, you are trying to use MULTI.EXE
as a master. Not surprising that it doesn't work well.

This is the first I'd heard of this. Aside from that one minor glitch,
we've had absolutely no problems running modem races with MULTI. The great
thing is that you get to practice different lines in traffic, which you
can't do in Preseason Testing.

It would be very nice if Papyrus did an interim release of NASCAR that
allowed us to race against the AI with the corrected physics model and the
new analog throttle/brake module. I've spent a lot of time setting up a
car, only to find out that it doesn't work well in traffic. Practicing
against the AI really helps to work the bugs out of a setup.

Amen, agreed, yes yes, ( get the idea Papyrus?)

That would indeed be nice for a user like me who is not in a position
to test out the multi server.

As it is, against the AI I really don't practice much in the preason
testing unless I'm trying to tweak speeds or a a Qualifying set.

I usually practice under the pre-race practice so I can run against
traffic.  Even in the original single-player sim, running with traffic,
particularly in the race itself, is a whole different ball 'o' wax.

My friend and I also have this problem.  However I just press escape and
go back into the garage and then back to qualifying and I'm in the stall
ahead of him.  Weird.
