You forgot "E".. More Kids in NASCAR then there are in GPL.
Just guessing,

I don't see how GPL's multiplayer coding is better. Take a ride on an oval
in GPL, and look how the prediction code has problem compared to N3.
Basically on two same server, you will have a better server/client packet
sharing in N3. Due to the nature of Stockcars, and the bandwith necessity.
You don't pay as much attention to other cars in GPL also. You are focused
on driving your car, and look at them only when you are in a position
situation. Racing N3 online, you need to be aware of everything around you,
and you also have the tools for that (F1, F2, F2 enter). With short
laptimes, lappers and leaders will soon battle, and with the pit strategy
who is very important, you tend more to watch the surroundings. And also,
the chances to be close to other affect your view of N3. In GPL, when can
you see 10cars bunched up within 1 second? On the start. And it's pretty
ugly, look at them warp everywhere. In N3, I see that very often. Thus, a
normal warp can look pretty big.
Stock-cars do less drastic movement changes. They are more sluggish, so the
predicted code has a better ability to "predict" where it will be going.
Also, the packet sharing is lower. The physics are less complicated, and
IIRC it takes around 19000bps compared to 24000 for GPL. Not 100% sure here
;)
That could be a reason, yes.
That also is very important. Driver-to-driver contact is much higher due to
the nature of stockcar racing. On a Bullring-type oval that is half a mile
in lenght, and with 20 humans, there is much more chances of crashes
compared to 20 humans at the Nurburgring.
As a N3 and GPL driver I would agree with you. Not that there is no good N3
drivers. I would say there is even more than in GPL because of the total #
of N3 online racers compared to GPL. But as any extremes, there is much
more bad drivers also. Especially if you aren't racing with the beta patch.
You are then missing all the quality drivers. In GPL, I simply do not know
drivers who aren't sportsman. They are in a very minority. In N3, any Joe
Public or punk kid can create havoc.
That question does not compute with me Dave ;-)

BTW I have nothing against GPL <G>
