Take a look at www.west-racing.com
Welcome back ;-)
Short story. Empire didnt want a real sim - WB didnt wanna make an arcade
game
Both stuck their fingers in their ears and went "lalalalalalalalalala"
WR then started on racing legends ( www.west-racing.com ) which gets them
out the legal issue with Empire as they've started from scratch.
Check the forum's for details.

PS - those screenshots that looked like it would take a Pentium 2.0 - were
on a P3-550 with a Voodoo 4.
Thanks. Once again infighting ruins things for everyone.
Looks nice enough, but I already have Grand Prix Legends. I was
looking very forward to the modern version of racing with the modern
cars. The same cars I used to work with as an SCCA corner worker,
Timing & Scoring person, etc. The same cars that I used to touch in
the paddocs at Sebring, Daytona, etc. This just isn't the same.. :(
I think you miss read the website in a big way. Just because it's called
Racing Legends doesn't mean it's a modern GPL. It's designed from the ground
up to be adaptable and customizable to allow any type of motor racing.

"> Most everything I saw was based around a classic single-seat formula
indeed.

All the cars they had licensed now belong to EMpire. You can see
almost all of them in the quick hack job Empire threw out called Total
Immersion Racing. That has the licenses that the West team negotiated for
WSC but it is NOT WSC. And since the West's no longer have the rights to
those cars, they will have to depend on private car code-weasels to fill in
the gaps.

LFS is a good example of what can be done without licenses.
Racing is racing, and that's what it's all about.
