NFS: Porsche Unleashed demo out.

You know it's not that bad! Reminds of the immense fun I had with NFS1
(last one I bought). I even found myself using opposite lock to get out of
slides... quite satisfying really. Saw it on the UK shelves this morning
(along with F1 2000 and Soldier of Fortune), All intriguing titles, but I
had a flight sim on the shopping list and managed to keep it that way. If
I had a bit more disposable cash this month (saving for a 600e or a
Coppermine Cel) I'd certainly buy NFS:PU. Nice, straightforward racing
game with enough realism to make life interesting. Excellent graphics
obviously. Some halfway decent racing to be had with the AI, and when you
nudge them off they seem to behave, well... quite like you'd expect. Hell
there may even be a few Newtonian laws buried in here! ;-)

I'm itching to go back to GPL Sears98 now though <g>.

I picked the game up yesterday and am very impressed with it.  Very
realistic handling and a lot of fun which I'd recommend to anyone in this
group.

Cheers,

Mike.

NFS: Porsche Unleashed demo out.

Ive just got the demo, and heres my impressions (as a diehard GPL racer)
for anybody who might care:

Graphics are good, althouth not overly impressive - that might be
attributable to my positively ancient V2 setup though ;-) Doors and bonnets
open when clicked in the showroom, which I find very cool....

Physics are impressive for an NFS title - it is truly the best NFS since
1995. For an arcade racer, this is good stuff indeed. The only car is a 94
911 Carrera that is the most tailhappy beastie Ive ever driven in a game.
Er, or anywhere, for that matter. Liftoff oversteer is there in abundance,
almost to the point where it becomes annoying.

For the first time in years, it is actually necessary to use the brakes in
an NFS title, which I find to be a great step forward, no?

The AI are great - while they may not be the last word in realism (they fly
a lot), they race fair and close.

Im definitely buying this game - if multiplayer works decently, this will
be a hoot online.

I already have the full version, and if you like the 911 in the demo,
you're going to LOVE all the rest of the cars!  The 356 handles like,
well, a 356, rather than an underpowered 911 -- if you're a GPL fan,
you'll probably be impressed with the "bias-ply" tire feel in some of
the older cars in NFSPU, too.

The 944 handles distinctly different than the rear-engine Porsches,
too, showing that they covered all the bases, apparently.

All in all, a great game -- I'd recommend it to and SIM fan in this
group.

I'd add that the Boxter also has a significantly different feel .. you
can 'feel' the balance in the car. Some of the golden era 911's are
incredibly hard to drive. I had heard that they were an amazing handful
to drive, but man ...

On another note: If you really improve something like a '73 911, you had
better use set-up to stiffen the suspension. I was managing to ground
the front of the car on the road (you could even see the sparks). The
detail is amazing. If you corner really hard and lift (or significantly
lighten) one of the rear tires, you will see on tire mark much darker
then the other, or only one at all. You can even use this to help set-up
the car (like a divot in golf), though set-up options are limited.
