Tim....it wasn't just Papyrus who considered the Le Mans-Bugatti circuit
boring....the drivers did too!

It's called "Spa".

Matt...transfer yourself back to the 1960s.  You are a F1 racing driver who
has raced on the "cream" of European and North American circuits.  You are
informed that the next French GP will be held on the "Bugatti" circuit at Le
Mans....part of which traverses a car park (remember....this is years before
Caesar's Palace!).

Now, having stormed the twists and turns of such splendid and
adrenalin-pumping tracks as Spa-Francorchamps, the Nurburgring, Zandvoort,
Kyalami, Monza and, last year, Rouen and only a couple of years previously,
Rheims, how would YOU rate "Bugatti" ..........."exciting"??!! :o)

Magny's been around for decades but it wasn't "modernised" until
President Mitterand(?) decided it would be a better home for the French
GP from 1991 onwards.

Yeah, I'm with you Bruce :-)
My point was/is, I think it's more likely that it was a licensing issue. The 67
Silverstone isn't
particularly interesting/extreme IMO....Papy would have done Brands :-)
But it is one of my favourite circuits for *racing*!

Magny Cours is typical of today's circuits and is as bad as the Le Mans
"Bugatti" circuit! The primary objective for the track designer is how to
cram a 2+ mile circuit into as small an area as possible.

'67 GP was held at the Le Mans/Bugatti circuit, not at Rouen like in
GPL.

Yes, maybe it's simply just a licensing problem! At the time GPL was in
development, Electronic Arts secured the rights on Le Mans for doing
a 24h simulation called "Porsche at Le Mans"! That project died, but
nevertheless the licensing might have been *exclusive*.

Actually (and this is information I got from then-EAC
president Don Mattrick), the project was to have been "McLaren at Le
Mans".  I actually remember a flyer in the box of NFS1 (?) which
contained a brief blurb about the game and a mockup of the cover art.
That was the last I heard of it.  I don't know what EA did with the Le
Mans licence but it's clear that they kept the McLaren licence for
NFS2 (and keep it still for NFSHS).

Question to anyone who knows: Did the EA game Mario Andretti
Racing (not the newer Andretti Racing) contain the 24h Le Mans
circuit?

Yes, it did...you could drive with all the cars within the game on
that track...needless to say that the F1 was my favorite...

Ok, so sue me - I *like* the track, at least in it's GP2 config.  I also like
Interlagos and Imola.  Leave it to me to like the strange circuits... :-)

Possibly two different projects?  After all, we do see that EA
holds a McLaren and a Porsche licence in the latest NFS.
