2 questions

Does f1gp2 give AI cars stop-go penalties (eg speeding in the pits)?

Does f1gp2 have realistic attrition?

1) not at all: neither your car can have it

2) yes, that's it: when you hit the kerb, you feel the car diffrent, and
you feel it too when you change suspensions

Fisrst off: As a seasoned F1GP user, I have to say that GP2 is too
damn hard. At amateur level the CC cars are way out in front. I did 28
laps of Brazil (saving every couple of laps) - finished second but Im
pretty sure I was holding everyone up - Shumacher was 40 seconds in
front of me!
Running a P120 with 16Megs Ram, 1Meg Trident video card: SVGA,  All
detail turned on front view apart from the sky. Kerbs, bank, track and
smoke turned on rear. Trackside objects turned on low - reccomends
13.4 fps - runs ok at 14.2 fps. Got to say: Graphics are excellent -
but theres lots missing on the above settings i.e no tunnel at Monaco!

Wheres the rain Geoff?

Hi!

Well, if you have seen F1 races in TV for last few years, 40 secs isn't
even much. It is quite common that there is 30 sec - 1 min gaps between
racers in the end of race.

It sure isn't fun or interesting but it is reality.

Anyway, problem with GP1 was, it is too easy (if you don't have
GP-editor) so I'm happy if GP2 is hard but of course it can be too hard.
Well, we will see in time. We'll just have to practice. Right ?

Don't give up !

Heh heh, not wanting to brag or anything (not!) but I ran my first
full distance race on Sunday at IMola on Pro level. Qualified 4th
with an all-Williams front row and Schumi next to me on the grid;
slipped back to 5th at the start despite using a manual clutch
(helps enormously for starts) but a broken wing caused me to
alter my strategy considerably and as a result I managed to finish
3rd only about 15 seconds behind the leader.

It was an absolute joy having backmarkers leave me room to pass
them!

Well, I must say, GP2 is HARD, I won't say too hard, but it sure is
hard. It helps a lot when you find a matching setup, otherwise the CC
are pushing you so hard, you're bound to make mistakes, which actually I
did and also on the same track as you did. Although qualifying in fifth
position on Imola (PRO level), I had every bit of trouble keeping the CC
behind me and keeping up with the cars up front. Making mistakes and
being attacked by suicidal attempts of Schumacher, Frentzen and
Verstappen in a way even Hill wouldn't have tried, realy makes things
tough and not always fun to play. Loading saved games realy comes in
handy in such cases !

But he, you don't get me complaining about it....it simply is a great
piece of software...the one thing that one should say about it, is that
it's not a game, it's real life, only the keyboard and computer screen
make you realise this is a racing simulation !

I am new to the group so forgive this question.  When will GP2 be
available in the states?  I have both Nascar Racing and IndyCar2, and
would love the chance to emmulate Jacque Villenueve.

Thanks,

All I can say is wow.

I have played it for 2 hours on the following system:
Pentium 75
16Mb RAM
Quad Speed CD-ROM
2MB Video Card

Absolutely awesome.

Well done Microprose.

By the way, does anybody understand how the graphics options work.  I tried
to set it to Automatic detail, and nothing turned off, even though the
computer was struggling.

I have a similar system; were you running in VGA or SVGA and what type of
video card? Also, any idea of the advantages of more RAM?

As far as I understand (correct me if this is total bullsh*t) the
automatic detail is static during the game, ie. when you select the
automatic detail, the game makes an educated guess of graphics options
that gives 16 fps on your system. That's it. The game does not switch
off any details during the race like Papyrus sims do, you can only
check the processor occupancy and use ALT-D to adjust the four levels
of trackside objects.
I believe the game actually slows down _time_ to give you the required
amount of fps, so a game 'second' may be two seconds in real time.

Just guessing here,

The auto detail doesn't seem to work in the same way as ICR2. You select
a frame rate with the + and -, and then click on Automatic. Then when you
eneter the sim it will give you details that will supply that average
frame rate. The textures do not flick on and off as you drive.
