There IS A 1997 VERSION OF THE
  SILVERSTONE TRACK. I'VE PLAYED

Whilst at autosport international on the 11th Jan, I played Gp2, as a
sort
of challenge thing. It had the 97 GB track on it, and
the guy from microprose said that there is a 1997 version
of the track, but the cars are the same. Does this mean
that there are more to come?
I am not lying. I PLAYED THE 1997 VERSION OF SILVERSTONE!!!

Given the the Silverstone track is currently being rebuilt, it would be
very hard to drive the 1997 version at the moment, except maybe in a
Monster Truck <g>

He may have been playing on a mock up of the 97 track design, but until
real F1 cars have run at the new layout (changes to the infield section
in particular and a complete repaving of the track) any attempt at a 97
track is purely based on hypothesis.

Cheers,
Richard

While I am in full agreement with you about Microprose's dismal support
of GP2, you should know that Silverstone has just had a major renovation
done to it for the 1997 Formula 1 season. From reading their press
announcement on rec.autos.sport.info it seems they have tried to speed up
the track and get rid of the parts the drivers complained about.

IF and that is a big if, microprose were working on a 1997 track and driver
update to GP2 I would think they would try and be accurate on their
(Microprose UK) home track which is silverstone and update the changes the
real track has undergone.

I want to hope that this is what they are doing, but I doubt it, microprose
is a once great company on their way down, and they can't seem to do anything
right anymore.

It would surprise me if we see any official microprose patches for GP2 at all.

Cheers.

Well I was at the show as well and saw the Microprose stand with the
game. No question about it - the version of Silverstone there IS
different to the one in the game - the word 'Silverstone' was
displayed on some of the bridges. I didn't have the chance to check
any changes to the track layout though.

The impression that I got was that the game wasn't actually officially
GP2. It was a Silverstone simulator, made by Microprose and therefore
utilising the GP2 engine, so really I doubt that the track will be
released in any form :(

If Microprose is able to do a special of the Silverstone track, then it is
also possible for them to construct missing tracks for the 1997 F1 season.
They can sell the extra tracks to us. I think many people want to buy the
new tracks.

Or is there a problem with "copyright" with F1 tracks? Can Microprose
construct excisting tracks without permission?

Happy Racing.

Well that track will be obsolete because Silverstone is going to change
again this year before the British Grand Prix. I read that they are
sinking 7 million into improving the Priory, Brookfield, Luffield, and
Copse corners.

They already have, the changes were made before christmas. The track is
resurfaced as well... You can find the new changes on the Silverstone
homepage (don't remember the URL, though). Rumour says nice changes
(quicker corners...)

Hmmmmmm, if Microprose has time to work on add on tracks, then dont you
think
they would have time to finish GP2 itself. Why would you put icing on

I don't believe Microprose has the rights to FIA related materials any
more. Someone was telling me this a while back, but I don't know if its
true or not.
