GP3 - Who Cares?

Hey All,

I've read from a couple of sources that there will be no internet
multiplayer support for this game, just LAN support.  That's a huge flaw for
me and I would think for everyone that has ever raced online.  The only way
that I would buy this game is if they disect all the F1 drivers brains and
incoporate them into the AI.

I could not agree more.  EA's F12000 looks very promising indeed.

No way, it's not allowed by the the F1 license, so we'll have to wait and
then probably pay a lot to race against real data.

Personally I don't buy games for single player anymore. The days of playing
games alone has gone really - even consoles are now recognising this.

I view the single player options only as practice for online play, so if
there is no internet play option then there is no point whatsoever in the
game and I certainly will not be buying it.

The don't add internet play because you either can get internet play or an
FIA licence!

Adn thats because of Bernies grredyness, but not sure of his actual reason
for not allowing it.

I see a lot of people saying this, do we know this for sure, or is this
one of those things that has been repeated so often that we know believe
this to be a fact ?

The part about FIA license and I-net play I mean, the greediness *is* a
fact :-))

Apparently Bernie Ecclestone is programming his own F1 sim which will be the
only one you can race on-line with.  The sim will also have a pay for (a
decent) view feature.  The original sim will only allow a gearbox view
(facing backwards) and you will only be allowed to ride in a Minardi unless
you buy the additional "Pay-TV" expansion pack.

IIRC it all started when somebody from Ubisoft said that.  For them, the
reason why they did not get a FIA license for the drivers/cars/sponsors but
only to Monaco GP for the likeness of the tracks is because they had
background plans for the GameService.  Having a FIA license like F1RS meant
the automatic lost of a serious multiplayer-based system.

Still, LAN may mean IPX, and we all know that the protocol is still
Net-friendly.

Are you guys forgetting The Eidos Official Formula 1  game? it had the FIA
license and also Internet play(tcp/ip).
And even if gp3 doesn't come with tcp/ip, ,there's always KALI or similar
online servers. If the IPX code is good it will play very well Through Kali.

Does anyone know for sure that F1-2000 "wont" have internet play?  If it
does than Geoff will look foolish.  Your comment about IPX is valid.  I
believe there are a number of services on the net that allow IPX
multiplayer ***.

I believe that SCGT has IPX network multiplayer support, but from what
I've seen on a few forums it hasn't been terribly successful. It seems
that a lot of the development is geared towards the 'wired' house -
network cards are cheap, and a number of companies are selling
networking kits so that a home can be outfit with a few networked
computers. Apple even has an "AirPort" for wireless networking.

It seems that the bandwidth problems and lag on the internet are going
to be around for a while as far as the producers are concerned, so why
make promises you can't keep.
