F1RS demo - *WOW*!!!

There seem to be mixed emotions about this sim on this newsgroup, but
if the French demo is even close to the English release I'm going to
LOVE this sim! The graphics are phenomenal on my Monster3D and the AI
(what I've seen) seems to be well done. I can't read French and many
menus are disabled, but there seems to be numerous options available
for adjusting the car, etc also.

Someone who has the release version of this sim (not available here
yet), please tell me that this is not an illusion and that the game is
just as awesome!

Thanks in advance,

Rob

I've seen a few people post that they hate it but I cant really see
why. There is some glaring problems like the menu system and having to
reload car setups etc but the good out does the bad.
Like you say, the graphics are great with a 3Dfx card. Engine sound is
good but I thought the sound for going down through the gears was
poor. I've also seen people say it looks too slow but I see the
opposite. On my P166 and M3D it moves along very nicely with all
graphic options on. This is the title that has made me finally decide
to buy a wheel and pedals to replace my j/s.
Like Pod it also has "ghosts". I love this idea, being able to
download other players ghosts and trying to beat them and since I'm
hopeless at sorting out the car I also download other players setup
files. By using the setup file of someone else I picked up an extra
40kmh at Monza over the default setup.

Yes, Rob.  There *IS* a Santa Clause and it's in the form of F1RS.

I bought the retail version here over a week ago, downloaded the patch
immediately, ran it in DirectX for 4 days and, after solving the menu
puzzle and getting to grips with the infinite variety of saves that can
be made for setups and configurations, decided that it was, indeed, a
better-than-expected product.

Then I bought a 3Dfx card three days ago and, after installing that,
downloading the 3Dfx patch, tweaking a file to improve start/first
corner refresh rate, I blew GP2 off my PC, where it had lived for over 3
years.

The graphics are incredible, simply stunning. The AI is, indeed,
intelligent. The "feel" of the car and the driveability is very good.
The ability to create and save so many different setups is a great
feature.

This is a worthy successor to GP2.   But you MUST run it in 3Dfx to do
it justice.

Go get it!!

If "here" is the USA, it is available now. I (and others) have already
ordered
our copies from 1-800-UBISOFT. I should have mine by tomorrow or thurs
at the latest. It only cost $44 and there was no way I was going to wait
until
the spring.
