I just received my import copy of Ubisoft's F1 Racing Sim. After an hour

of driving all I can say is WOW!!! Microsoft and ABC Sports should take
notice. This is how you make a racing sim. This game has great AI,
unlike CPR and Road To Indy which are reviewed on our reviews page. F1
also has incredible graphics, great car physics(IMHO, having never
driven an F1 car) and lots of customization and garage options. So far,
it has my vote for game of the year (along with Longbow 2 of course).
Expect a full review later this week and screen shots tomorrow.

Just out of curiosity (I honestly don't know!), is this Ubisoft's first
racing sim?

They made Pod and Pole Position 64, but as far as sims are concerned,
I think that F1RS is probably their first one.

So...first "real" sim, looks good, plays good, no major problems? I
guess it *can* be done, after all!

I believe this is their first sim. After another 3 hours with it, all I can say is "pretty darn impressive!" I'm still looking for something to be critical
of....I can't find anything...at least not yet. What a cool sim!

Hi Bart,

Funny thing, some have problems, most don't. I suspect it's a
matter of having the proper drivers (Glide 2.43 for 3dfx cards) -

To sum it up, a spectacular sim regardless of a first try, or veteran
sim_code_monkeys. F1RS is IMHO the best sim coded thus far,
worth every penny.

One flaw (has me weeping at night) is the lack of true head to head
play via modem...IPX is there, and should be interesting over
Kali, but not having the modem stuff was a bad move (reportedly
due to FOCA restrictions).

I beleive it is, though they did produce pod.

It's not about Glide 2.43, some configs just have problems with F1RS usually
with crashes when loading save games, etc.
I agree with everything else!

Hmm, no control config problem here, and no problems in D3D mode
either. With 3Dfx mode I don't get the top part of the***pit drawn
though. :-(
