GP2 is great, but I can't really enjoy playing it. I can hardly get 17
fps in VGA mode with only three textures turned on. In SVGA mode
there's no hope to drive at all. GP2 gives estimates that seem to be
quite ok for my cpu, but in real life I have to lower the frame rate a
lot to get under 100% cpu usage. If I use estimate the CPU meter shows
about 200% even when the car is not running!
My computer equipment list is following:
- ATC-2425B 486-PCI with SiS chipset and Award bios, 128k cache
- AMD Am5x86-P75 processor overclocked in 3*50 MHz (=150 MHz) mode.
(I Also tried 4*33Mhz = 133 Mhz (original speed) and 4*40Mhz = 160
MHz mode).
- ExpertBoard S3 Trio64 PCI display adapter with 2 MB dram.
- 32 MB ram.
GP2 log:on reports CPU speed 223 and video speed 188 in turbo mode and
112 cpu and 188 video in nonturbo mode (turbo button off).
There's no difference in the game whether I have the turbo button in
on or off position. The game runs far too slowly. My computer is about
as fast as Intel P90 in other applications. Math coprocessor is slow
compared to Pentiums but does F1GP2 use it? (Quaka runs quite ok)
When compared to my friends Intel P100 with similar display card and
memory configuration the differenge is huge. P100 only has marginally
more power but the game runs smoothly.
What's the problem? Bug in the processor/game?
