Rockfire gamport to USB problem

by Ivar Sandsta » Tue, 26 Mar 2002 18:46:54

I use a Rockfire adapter for my Redline gameport pedals.
My problem is that the output from the adapter is
divided into a few steps.

My accellerator pedal will return values between -1000 and 1000.
The problem is that they come in steps of about 250 if i remember
correctly, giving only 10 different values.

I use it because my wheel (old Logitech Force) needs to be the first
controller if I want to use games that do not support multiple
controllers. At least I cannot get any gameport controllers not
defined as first controller to work in Win 98se.

Anyone else seen this problem, or solved it?

I found the problem when using joystimm.exe from the free
dutch Racer simulator  www.racer.nl, attempting to setup the
clutch pedal.

You need to modify the electronics in the USB adapter to solve this problem,
but it is fairly easy to do.
There is a message about it at the RaceSimCentral forums. The link to the
posts is below.

It doesn't get perfect after the modification, but it is a lot better than
the standard unit.

Thanks

I will find my soldering iron and start right away.
