Folks,
I've made some new adjustments to the US Mirror of The Pits...
You can now find a DOS and Windows Utility for car setups...thanks to Bill
Castello
and Mark Formo for writing these excellent utilites. Both of them work
for NASCAR
and ICR/ICR II.
There is a new Quikfix Guide. As I mentioned in an earlier post, the
original game
doesn't handle weight distribution with oversteer/understeer correctly.
So I changed
that to reflect the settings that WILL work with NASCAR.
There have been alot of requests for setups for Hawaii. I have a few,
which I plan
to put up here shortly, but if some of you drivers out there have a
few...PLEASE
SEND THEM! I will volunteer my setups if you volunteer yours...c'mon IVL,
IVGA, NASS96
drivers...help me out here...
Hopefully by tonight I will have a Hawaii page up. It will have the
screenshots, info,
and an interview with Ed Martin where he answers all your questions about
NASCAR II
and the new NRL league as well. So before you fire another volley at Ed,
come check
it out and see if your question is there...
And like I said, it will have some setups on it, but probably not by
tonight.
Don't forget there is a new URL for The Pits US Mirror. It's in my sig
below.
I still see quite a few sites with the old URL, and the one before that!
Please
change them if you have them.
Ok...now for the bad news....
We are slowly but surely making some updates for The Pits. I got yelled
at the other
night at Hawaii for not making updates to The Pits. Folks, some of you
have heard this
line before, but Jed and I DON'T MAKE MONEY FROM THIS!!!! If you have so
much
free time on your hands to *** about our time, then why don't you
volunteer to help
out? I don't have time to listen to ignorant peasants who have nothing
better to do than
crash everyone at Talladega and *** about The Pits. That's why we are
free...then
again...maybe some people would LIKE us to charge for downloads...then
they would
have a good reason to complain if we don't update every other week. Get a
life, dudes...
I want to apologize for the problems we have been having with The Pits
lately. I am
really annoyed at my internet provider, as they have caused all the
problems. I am
doing my best to keep you all online, but please bear with me. Until we
have our own
server, then we can do what we want. If someone out there has a place for
us...let us
know! We would really like to move to a "www.thepits.com" Wouldn't that
be cool!
And now for everyone's four-letter word..."Daytona". You knew it was
coming...
Most of you all know the whole story...for those who are still living in
Timbuktu,
DAYTONA IS NO MORE! FINITE! DONE! We will not send you the copy, we
will not let you beta test, we won't even answer your email. So don't
bother us.
The Daytona project was canned when we recieved a phone call from Andrew
at International Speedways Co. (who owns Daytona and Talladega), telling
us
to "cease and desist". This is because the liscense for Daytona is held
by Sega,
and the contract will not expire until April 97. So anyone who uses
Daytona's
name in vain puts ISC in a bind with Sega...because they are supposed to
uphold
the agreement with Sega and protect the name and copyright. Don't ask us
to
rename it, don't ask us to release it in ibm.wares, don't ask for
ANYTHING.
We won't do it. We respect the right for ISC to maintain their agreement
with Sega. Papyrus respects the right. So don't ask us to do something
foolish.
YOU cannot pay our lawyer's fees.
As far as the Daytona patch that was release on a few web sites...that was
NOT
a product from The Pits. Our final product looked and drove much better
than
a "mere copy of Talladega with some scenery thrown in".
For those of you who are awaiting this...be patient. I think you will
find with
the advent of the NASCAR Racing League, that NASCAR isn't going to
throw away the chance to make money from their own liscense...after all,
Bill France owns a good portion of the stock in ISC. Why have a NRL
without
Daytona? And you will probably see the rest of the tracks later, as each
one
becomes available. The NRL is going to be big, you can bet on it. I
don't
speak for Papyrus or NASCAR on this, it's just very apparent to me the
direction
that NASCAR will probably take. They've been pretty good for almost 50
years
at figuring out what the public wants...I don't think they will drop the
ball now...
And wouldn't you all rather race the "real" Daytona that Papyrus puts out,
rather
than a patched Talladega that Jed and I got to ya?
We thank the supporters of The Pits who continue to go to our site and
find the
best that racing simulations can provide...free of charge! We will
continue to
try to get them to ya.
If you have a utility, a FAQ, setups or anything that you would like to
see at
Cheers!
