The Pits - Yes we're still alive (news of Daytona inc.)

Hi All,

Just a quick note to everyone from The Pits.

Sorry thing have gone a little stale at the moment. As most of you
know, I've just moved jobs and having to create web sites all day, I
do find it a *little* difficult to motivate to plod through another
one during my social time! ;-)

I'm not being rude, but I haven't got a lot of time to answer all the
e-mail I get. Some of you may of found that it sometimes takes a week
to get a reply. Again, I apologise.

Just to keep you all up to date, heres what currently going on behind
the scenes.

Firstly, I'm setting up a Questions and Answers page so you can post
your queries and questions for others to see. The plan is that other
visitors will read your questions and help you out. The Pit Crew will
be monitoring the group and answering questions as well as the
self-elected 'experts'. This will hopefully reduce the number of
e-mails with the same questions and keep my mailbox a little clearer.

Secondly, I'm just about to revise the feedback system. In the past
all e-mail was directed to me a several messages are better answered
by Jan Kohl. Therefore, the new feedback page addresses this problem
(if you'll pardon the pun!) by giving you the option of who the
recipient is to be.

Also, I'm no longer keeping a mailing list. Needless to say that with
visits to the site topping 45000 the mailing list is getting pretty
large. For the time and effort involved, it is easier for us to post
regular updated news to the News & F.A.Q page and to r.a.s.

Lastly, and you heard it here first, I'm currently mulling over the
idea of releasing the Daytona patch as 'Daytona'.

The way I see it is this. The effort by me to create a 'Florida' track
and write a patch is a lot. The patch doesn't contain any original
Papyrus code and I'm not charging for it.

My feeling is that as I'm a humble user and I'm making nothing from
this, Daytona is going to have more hassle than its worth trying to
sue me. Frankly is they tried, they wouldn't get much. Hell, the
exposure involved would probably make them a laughing stock anyway.

So, at present I am toying with the idea of just doing it.

Anyway, thats all for now. I'll update the Daytona page on The Pits
ASAP so stop asking me when it's going to be finished.

Enough already! ;-)

Regards

Jed

I think your original idea of releasing the file as "x" name as well as a
program to convert the "x" to "daytona" would accomplsh both of your
goals:

1) avoid suit
2) make a major contribution to racing simulations

just my opinion

I don't know why you go to all this work for the rest of us ingrates, but
I'm glad you do.  Call it 'Daytona' if you want, but I'm sure everyone
will be happy to have it either way.

I usually just lurk and don't post much, but I just wanted to say THANK
YOU for all the enjoyment you've already added to NASCAR for me.  I've
learned a lot by visiting the PITS and have put it to use often.

So, I continue patiently waiting for Daytona without saying a word because
I know you're working on it.  At last my patience will pay off.

By the way, your Watkins Glen setup works great for me.  The way it hooks
up in the first turn - I can almost FEEL it!
