How to get an audience for online racing

Me myself would really like to be able to see other sim racers race online in
real time, so here goes my suggestion to all sim racing developers (Is there no
stopping this guy, Ed's note). First we must have a server (server A) which act
as a race server for the online race. Then we need another server (server B)
which server A sends all necessary race information to.

Now anyone who isn't taking part in the race should be able to view the race in
real time by downloading a viewer (a mini version of the simulator) for free,
starting the viewer and connecting to server B. Then anyone of the ongoing races
can be chosen and watched in real time. The viewer should work like any replay
function currently available in todays racing sims, thus you as a viewer can
choose any camera anytime during a race.

I know when I in near future will start to brag about my wins and poles in the
online races everyone at my work would just love to see me loose :o).

/Christer, I know you can do it and we would love the audience :o)

I was thinking about that also, it really is a great idea for Nascar3 maybe.
One thing that I would like to see added is the ability (since in 3d) for you
to move anywhere you like and view in any angle. This is know as skew for most.
It would be cool to sit in the press box and watch the race at tally. :-)

Christer, wouldn't it just be easier to watch the REAL race on REAL
television?  :o)

A simple copy of the sim would probably be enough. Being able to view in the replay
section would be a must as well. That way we could choose who to watch and from what
angle. An auto zoom feature to overtaking manoeuvres and accidents would of course be
great.

Actually, I think you just sparked me into understanding FIA's decision to stop Ubi
from having a good online version of F1RS Bruce. Given the choice, I would DEFINANTLY
choose to watch a sim race driven online by well known and respected simmers over the real
deal any day! Knowing the sim yourself and appreciating what's going on, not to mention
probably knowing the drivers as well and having raced them before, would make for the
grandest entertainment in sims, short of being a participant yourself, that I can think
of!

Actually the viewer could show the race delayed with a couple of seconds, thus
the viewer will have time to find moments and incidents to show. This view of
the race could be called the "producer"-view. You would never miss any
overtaking, incidents or moments in this view, unless they happen at the same
time, then I guess the event which happens closer to the front gets chosen.

You will of course also be able to save the whole race, to view it from any
camera angle later.

How about a possibility for the viewer to "applause" a given driver (pressing a
button with the number of the car)? That would make it possible to hear cheers and
shouts from the attendance after how many "applauses" you/we get (the racer, I take
it for granted that you and I would race that race, Christer)! This would bring in
the entertainment factor as well, because the most flashy driver would get the most
applause and thus have higher spirits and charge!

The possiblitities are endless, but in this case it would be wise to double our
efforts on how to bring money into the sim racing business, so that we can race for
more than glory ;-) I can imagine receiving a email with an offer to race at a given
date and time and receiving starting money for it!!! Or how about building a league
with simulation not only of the racing, but team orders, ranking, points, injuries,
test drivers, development teams etc... This would attract the not-so-fast drivers as
well, those interested in the tactics and stuff... I'd love to get accepted as test
driver for one of the teams to prove my speed...

The attended on-line race would be a thrill beyond imagination for my part, grud
knows what pulse I would have on the starting line in grid pos2 alongside you
Christer!

Just make sure you don't put in keys that let you "boo" certain drivers. :)

I'm looking forward to outbrake you ;o).

The applause will take up some bandwidth and I wonder if a real racer can hear
the crowd? I would like some feedback on how many is currently watching the
race, though, perhaps graphically shown in the stands? Empty stands no
spectators... :o(.

I hope it's higher than mine, you know I've recently taking up jogging :o).
