How to get an audience for online racing

I've actually found myself watching a GP2 race between AIs where I tried to
resimulate the latest F1 race at Hockenheim. The racing was so close I sat and
watched almost 20 laps in real time :o). I guess I will see a lot of online
races as soon as this gets implemented :o).

Absolutely, cool idea, like being one of the spectators :o). How about the
ability to make spectator noice and be able to hear the other spectators noice?
I would suggest to keep the first version as simple as possible, but not too
simple :o).

This feature could also bring the business of live on-line broadcasts of
races, using something like a PointCast program to relay stats live to a
webpage. (Someone might havbe to have a computer tied into the replay
system and have a laptop to relay the info, or have the replay viewer be a
Win95/98 app which sits on the desktop while someone could relay the info
using another program) Possibilities for this are litterally endless.
Another idea could be to a chat room on another server (So it doesn't slow
down the race) so you can chat with anybody else in the stands. Hmm, ok, I
think I need to start drinking caffeine free Mountain Dew once again.

How about using like the sky view to allow people to sit and watch the
race.  Have it a choice for joing the network game.  Spectator or Driver.
May could do this so the game would not suffer.  All the game would need to
do is to send out the view it would not require any input back from the
spectator.  If the spectator is lagging they just have a jumpy view.

Just thoughts on this.

I could also see a very cool interactive use for this down the road
when bandwidth grows.  Real team spotters.  This would be very cool.
To be able to have a teammate spot for you and count laps and let you
know where EXACTLY the leaders are would be cool.  Maybe then, even
add the ability for the observer to act as a spotter/crew chief.  Let
that person manage what will be done to the car and let the driver
race.

Sorry, started rambling.  This has been something that I thought would
be cool for a long time.

According to the folks at EAI (the ones doing the coding), much of the
information written/posted on Trans-Am 68 72 at Avault is inaccurate.
EAI and GTI are still undecided on the subject of online multiplay in
regards to TA Racing, so I guess we'll see when released.  However, the
sim will have the usual IPX and TCP/IP stuff, and EAI's target is for at
least 20 online~players per event.  =)

Cheers!

Marc
