Netkar multiplayer - Does it work ?

by LoOZR3 » Sun, 08 Feb 2004 19:24:21

Hi all !

I used to be one of the few that were RAVING about netkar.
I thought it was SUPERB !
When multiplayer was introduced I was as happy as a little kid.
However, I never got it to work properly despite following all the tips and
hints regarding the various connection-problems.

How have things proceeded in the meantime ?
Is it stable now ?
Has it been reworked ?
Does it work properly ?

Please help me out, I would like to race this gem again !

I have never had any problems with it, works great for me, I still think it
is one of the best sims out there.

Netkar multiplayer - Does it work ?

Hi there,

I hear that there is a new version of NetKar that is set to come out
very soon (week or two maybe?) the forum at
http://forum.racesimcentral.com/forumdisplay.php?f=244 is a great place
to stay up to date on this sim. If you happen to be able to read Italian
to forums at http://www.drivingitalia.net/ are supposedly very informative.

For pretty much anything & everything related to NetKar be sure to hit
http://www.nkzone.com They've been having server issues the last while,
but seem to be back up now.

According to Stefano, the man behind the sim the next release is set to
have:

- Improved physics for all veichles

- Experimental rain. The rain in v0.9.9b will be static (not changing
through the session and global to the track) and working only offline
(not available in multiplayer). Tyres are not expected to work correctly
temperature-wise in relation to water. it is a very rough implementation
but a good preview and a good chance to get feedbacks.

- Multiple tyres per model. Not only the obvious slick/rain selection
for the race cars, but different brands with different behaviour for the
road cars, around 4-5 tyre models per road car ATM.. more to come as
separate download later.

- Some bug fixes, such as replay names with spaces crashing, tyres
clipping the body of the supra and the MG and so on.

- Multiplayer bug fixes, such as the "stuck in Sync", general stability
and so on.

- Multiplayer race list working.

- Driver's helmet movement (3D model, not all the cars yet)

- GTO now has a live axle at the rear instead of an indipendent suspension.

- Cars do not sink when flipped anymore

- ActLabs Shifter Support

Things I am working to add in v0.9.9b:

- New sound engine based on DX9 and not on QMDX library. Support for
crossfade samples (for better engine sound).

- DX Shader support (80% done).
