Wheel/Pedal/Shifter Opinions

Hi Folks, I'm a recently ***ed sim racer (N2) using a joystick to
drive......it's O.K., but I've got to think that I'm lacking a lot of
control that I might gain with a wheel + pedals....with the stick, throttle
and brake are on/off only, with no modulation other than on/off the buttons
a lot....this sucks.Is there a wheel/pedal/shift combo out there that has
the ability to feather the throttle and brakes....I think there must be,
from reading a bit in the group, and what is reasonable to spend for a
quality setup?       thanks    Ed                  "The pace car is in...."

Well... it all depends on how much money you want to spent.  Wheel prices
can vary from 50$ to 1600$.

If you are serious with racing simulators, I would say try to focus around
the 150-250$ price range. For that you can have a TSW2 (probably the best
quality/price wheel).  http://www.racesimcentral.net/;.  Note that it's hand-made,
100% Guaranteed and most of the parts aren't made from cheap plastic.

If this is a little too expensive for your budget, try to check out any
Thrustmaster product.  http://www.racesimcentral.net/;.  THe Nascar Pro wheel
is somehow a good wheel but more cheap than any TSW product. It's around
150$.

IMHO, I would buy this :   a Thrustmaster GP1 Wheel (around 65$) and a set
of CH pedals.  It's very simple to make it work, and it's better IMHO than
any other Thrustmaster product.

Well, on this we'll agree to disagree :-)  Had this exact combo, since I
already had the Ch Pedals for flight-sim duty and used them with my CH
Flightstick Pro for driving.  The GP1 wheel worked somewhat better than the
joystick and I got it for like $50.  But buying both seperately, and new,
will run you almost what a NASCAR Pro will - but if you do a lot of flight
simming might be a good route to go.  If nothing else, adding the CH Pedals
to the joystick will be much better than using buttons for gas/brake.  I
drove like that for years before getting a wheel

Since the new computer desk for the new computer didn't like the GP1's
mounting system, I got a NASCAR Pro.  F1RS is a lot easier to drive with
this than the GP1 / CH combo, and for $100 this wheel is hard to beat.  I
just feel a lot better driving with it than the GP1/CH setup (more travel in
the wheel and the pedals), seems sturdier, and mounts to the desk so well
you could pick it up with the wheel.   If you have the $$, the TSW has a
great reputation, although I have no personal experience with it.  Only
downside to TSW is it's not sold in stores (yet), and me I kinda like to try
the product and grab the box and take it home, and be able to return it if
need be, but that's just me, and not trying to disparage TSW in any way.

I've seen some sort of new CH wheel (XL 500 or something), around $60
w/pedals, wheel looked pretty decent.  Not sure about the pedals, sort of a
weird design, that I figured would either work better than anything else or
really suck.  They didn't have any out of the box so I didn't look into them
any further, but might be worth a look on a budget.  Anybody seen or used
these?

HIYA ED,
There is one wheel an pedal combo. that is hand built and priced for
someone that is hooked as bad as you and I are, that is the TSW2. Please
look at Pics. on web Page  www.tsw2.com  after you have seen them you will
agree, if you buy Thrustmaster it will break springs and fall apart on you,
if you use it alot, the TSW2 will not. The other choice is so overpriced
that you could buy a car with what it costs, it's the ECCI it starts at
$800.00 and tops out at $1600.00 that right  WOW I am not that week to spend
that kind of money on this game.

I've been using a TM GP1 for over a year, with thousands of laps on GP2
and TOCA and it's still mechanically sound. When it breaks I may
consider a TSW, but I can't fault my GP1 for price/quality.
Just my experience and opinion.

I've been using a TM Nascar Pro since it first appeared on the shelf,
and nothing has broken or failed yet. Is the TSW a better wheel? Could
be. If my Thrustmaster ever breaks, maybe I'll try one.
