Severals persons writed here  they want F1GP2 to simulate mechanical
failures. I think it isn't a good idea. With that, player could be
frustrated because he couldn't handle the causes of this problems. This
feature could be interesting if the game would include a career
management. But It won't.

About the possibility of blowing his engine, please remember that real
Formula One are equipped with a feature that not allow the pilot to go
beyond the engine limits. Then it wouldn't be realistic.

I read here F1GP is far from the real Formula One Grand Prix. Hum... For
a french magazine, some friends had interviewed some formula one pilots
to know what they think of that. They asked some drivers (Barrichello,
Belmondo, Gachot, Alliot, Comas, De cesaris, Panis and Eric Bernard) to
try to play on a "PC + Thrustmaster F1" they bring at the 1994 Belgium
GP. And look at the incredible answer of Rubens Barrichello : "I own a PC
at home, and I always play to F1GP. A friend had bring me from USA a
wheel and pedals. [...] Last year, for my firts season in Formula 1, as I
had never drived on Suzuka, I trained myself with F1GP".

From my point of view, the most important thing to enhance in F1GP is the
computer's opponents comportment. It's really boring to see a pilot push
you in a straight line just because he was programmed to follow a
predefined path.

You didn't see the Hockenheim Grand Prix where about 8-10 cars retired
with blown engines? Sure, they tend not to just blow them by
over-revving once, but apparently if you run them too hard for too
long, they go boom.

Negative. This is exactly what Mika Hakkinen of McLaren-Mercedes raported
as a reason for his engine blowout at Hockenheim last weekend.

I have heard several accounts of actual F1 drivers using F1GP to train
themselves for the actual GPs.  But I feel they use it to learn the
course.  F1GP has fairly accurate course representations, which is
noticeable even while watching in-car camera footage of the actual races.
F1GP2 will improve the graphics department to make the game LOOK more
realistic, the sound department to make the audio experience more
realistic (through digital sfx mixing and '3d doppler sound'), the realism
department via weather changes, tire blow outs, and more race marshalling,
and ultimately will provide us with a vastly improved car model (I'm
betting my money on the four wheel traction circle physics model seen in
sims like ICR and NASCAR).  All of this running at a respectable frame
rate at 320x200x256 on a 486DX2/66, and flying on a pentium.  I can't WAIT
to play this thing.  Imagine a shower of rain in the middle of the
race..having the backmarker in front of you blue flagged, and a new car
model that makes us feel like we're there......

And also most engine damage comes from a driver changing down through the box,
there is nothing that can be done from stopping the engine over-reving then.
For example if a driver changes down from 6th to 5th too early then the engine
will almost certainly over-rev.

If random engine failures are being considered, why not throw in a few
random FIA screw-ups?  Illegal fuel, undersized skid plates, locking fuel fittings,
pit speed limit violations,......
