True, when they're driving in a 1 1/2 mile soup bowl...
Not F1 either, then... cause they rarely (if ever) hit 233, and it damn sure ain't
on a curve!!!
And lesse... The last time anyone in NASCAR pulled more than a single G was when
Jeff Gordon was doin' his wife... and I bet it wasn't for very long... hehe

Actually, I like em all, but a good CART sim has been a long time coming...

WHO SAYS WE CANT RACE F1 OVER THE DAMN NET?????

as soon as you get someone from a games company or someone from the FIA then
ill listen, BUT TO SURMISE THAT ONLINE PLAY IS BANNED because the net code
in these games is SHITE takes some swallowing.

The following is based purely on desire and not what Papy should do from a
business standpoint:

1) Historic Can-Am (1966 to 1968) - great cars (Chaparral, McLaren, Lola),
tracks (Riverside, Laguna Seca, Mosport, Bridgehampton) and drivers (Hall,
McLaren, Surtees, Gurney, Hulme, Donahue, Phil Hill).  The odds of this ever
happening are about 1 in 10 billion.  We'll have to wait for World Sports Cars
with a Can-Am patch, I imagine.

2)GPL2 - another historic F1 sim.  Not sure which year I'd choose - late 70s
with Gilles Villeneuve, Schekter, Andretti, Jones, Lauda, etc. would be cool.
Or mid-80s perhaps, with Lauda, Prost, Piquet, Rosberg, Senna, Mansell, etc. Or
how about a 50's era sim with Fangio and Moss.  This classic era has been
completely ignored.

3) Modern F1 - yeah, there are a ton of these on the market, and some of them
are pretty decent, but none of them has been done as well as you know Kaemmer
and gang could do it.

4) CART - I'm not the fan of CART that I am of F1, which is why I only rank
this 4th, but I would still love to see this.  Papy's roots are in this genre,
so it would make sense.

5) ALMS - this would be fun as well.  You could have a variety of different
classes from the prototypes (Michele Alboreto, R.I.P.), to the Corvettes,
Vipers, etc.  Some fun tracks - Mosport, Road Atlanta, etc.

        Definitely a CART sim.

A question to those of you who would prefer a modern F1 sim: given the
advent of traction control, "launch" software and auto shifting and God
knows what else in contemporary F1, wouldn't an accurate modern F1 sim
be a kind of technological step backwards in sim design? Wouldn't it
drive a lot like ICR2 with the autoshit option turned on?  It seems to
me like a waste of some of the GPL engine's best features if you were to
design the software to control your virtual wheelspin.

I thought the FIA had sold the complete rights to online F1 play to some
game developer or other. Hence you can't race F1 over the net (unless you
play whichever game it is that has the sole rights).

BTW Alex which Formula Ford championship is it you've been participating in?
I'm off to Snetterton with a mate in a couple of weeks and apparently
there'll be some FFord action there :0)

You could turn it on or off just as McLaren and Williams did.

Sorry to respond to my own message, but I meant "autoshift", not what I
typed below! I think that we can all agree that what I typed below has
no place in any racing sim!

You know, this raises an interesting (to me anyway) point.  I've noticed
in GPL that if you crash really badly, sometimes the screen just goes
to static, which I take to mean the driver has died.  But it happens
seemingly somewhat randomly, as I've had some crashes that I had no
business surviving where this did not happen.  So my question is, to
what extent does GPL model 'damage' to the driver, and are there any
sims that do it more realistically?  It would be cool to have a sim that
would actually start blacking out the screen after 20 consecutive laps
of Texas at 235+.  :)

It seems to me that if the spot where the view is looking from ends up
beneath the landscape -- typically caused by an upside down car-- then
the screen goes to static. I think this is the case anyway. I first
thought this when, after rolling over, the car was rocking back and
forth on my head before it came to rest. The static was coming and
going as if the camera origin was passing in and out of the ground.

sry, ive seen alot of conspiracists blame the fia, and it sometimes make me
type with caps on.

F1RC has online play.

GP3 doesnt, but then the LAN play in GP3 is awfull.

True, I would love to see something about US road course racing (Nascar's
smaller series perhaps).

Yes well it's similar to WSC, but still a little different also :)  It's not
an *open-source* sim, so you can only race with the selected race cars.  WSC
is prominently Sports cars, while The Sim could give you stockcars and
touring cars.

Hmmm, SCGT is quite close to what I would want indeed.  I speculate the poor
sales are because of the saturated simracing shelves at that time.  Perhaps
there is a need to really attract a big name in the licensing.  You could
almost reverse the licensing process (the licensed paying to the licensee).
Something in the same style as Ford Racing.

How the heck can you drive when your limbs are numb and you are
experiencing tunnel vision.

CART drivers had every right to refuse to race.  And this should be a
victory for all drivers including NASCAB.

BTW CART has run 241 at Michigan.  NASCAR hasn't and never wil.
