All great ideas Richard, but I speculate that the Sierra exec suits will
want the company to stay with North American known motorsport series. It'll
probably not be that risky, unfortunately :( But hey we can all dream :)
My personal choice (if we exclude historical F1) would be some sort of
fantasy based yet realistic racing simulation. Just call it "The Sim". Get
some licenses from well known tracks around the world, and create 5-6
fantasy (yet realistic) types of cars. Make the sim very multiplayer-based.
It is limited to those 6 or so racing types, but with all different real
tracks, the sim is beyond possibilities. For the car types you could have a
stockcar similar to the WC, an open-formula based on the mid-80's turbo
F1's, a FFord type modern open-wheeler, 4WD touring car, FWD touring cars,
etc...
What are the advantages? First of all, you do not need to buy a global
license for a series. Only the tracks need licensing, and perhaps some form
of advertising (creating alliances with sponsors so they are pre*** in
the sim could be a possibility). No drivers have to be licensed. The
second main advantage is that all those different types of cars would make
the sim approachable to any type of motorsport *** fan. No
categorisation = more sales. The only let back could be the possibility
that it takes too much potential for future titles, but because there is no
licensing, you can still cash in with the multiple NASCAR titles or other
real racing series around the world.
Somehow, this could be the anti-GPL, and also it's legitimate successor.
