Cart or F1 ?

I wouldn't mind a MODERN F1 sim if I could join in with 21 other drivers
online.  I wouldn't mind a MODERN CART SIM if such tactics as fuel
consumption, short pitting, blacking out and dizziness are included.

Yeah with F1 drivers you won't have to worry about them ever going 233 mph
for any valuable time.

They already made 3 CART sims...and if I remember correctly, they did pretty
well in the stores.  They did 1 F1 sim and that one didn't do that great in
the stores...

Thats because F1 happens on proper race tracks - with corners and stuff

I mean - I agree that CART shouldnt have run last weekend - but why the hell
didnt they figure that 6 months ago

Two CART sims, if not counting the CART Racing re-release of IndyCar
Racing 2. It would be so freaking brilliant with a new one.

Did they not do Indy 500 too?

I would buy Cart 3 just to hear the guy say "Hi, I'm Paul Page from Papyrus
and this is Indycar racing threeee!!"

> Which sim should Papy do next, cart or F1?

Neither.

I live in the UK, and I've never watched (or been interested in)
NASCAR.

Oddly, I bought NASCAR 4 last weekend (EB, 20ukp) and it's the
dog's danglies!  :-)

Getting back on topic...

I'd like to see a decent Touring Car simulation.  TOCA[1/2] and
STCC[1/2] are just kiddie arcade games.  Useless.

A simulation of modern-era Super Touring cars... Mmmnnn... It
could be based on the European, Swedish or British series.  I
don't care, so long as they model each car - dedicated people
out there can do the paint jobs and tracks!

Oh, and perhaps it could be multi-classed, so it could include
DTM cars... and what about those Sierra Cosworth RS500s?!  :-)

Yes, I've seen the add-ons for SCGT, but lets face it, SCGT is
a bit too basic, and so are it's add-on cars.

Not to mention the cars, drivers and races !!

Any F1 sim prior to 1993 would be cool imho...  but If I got to choose, I'd
say that 1976 looks like a damn fine year!

Let's not forget the *3-5 seconds* of turbo-lag either!

Hitting the accellerator 3-5 seconds before you want the power dont sound
like much fun to me.

All great ideas Richard, but I speculate that the Sierra exec suits will
want the company to stay with North American known motorsport series.  It'll
probably not be that risky, unfortunately :(   But hey we can all dream :)

My personal choice (if we exclude historical F1) would be some sort of
fantasy based yet realistic racing simulation.  Just call it "The Sim".  Get
some licenses from well known tracks around the world, and create 5-6
fantasy (yet realistic) types of cars.  Make the sim very multiplayer-based.
It is limited to those 6 or so racing types, but with all different real
tracks, the sim is beyond possibilities.  For the car types you could have a
stockcar similar to the WC, an open-formula based on the mid-80's turbo
F1's, a FFord type modern open-wheeler, 4WD touring car, FWD touring cars,
etc...

What are the advantages?  First of all, you do not need to buy a global
license for a series.  Only the tracks need licensing, and perhaps some form
of advertising (creating alliances with sponsors so they are pre*** in
the sim could be a possibility).  No drivers have to be licensed.  The
second main advantage is that all those different types of cars would make
the sim approachable to any type of motorsport *** fan.  No
categorisation = more sales.  The only let back could be the possibility
that it takes too much potential for future titles, but because there is no
licensing, you can still cash in with the multiple NASCAR titles or other
real racing series around the world.

Somehow, this could be the anti-GPL, and also it's legitimate successor.

Sounds like WSC to me (although that one will have a few licences as
well).

Yeah, that's true... I suppose European touring car sims are not
something that would be popular in the US!  :-(

Perhaps if it was possible to have something more US-oriented by
default, but open/patchable enough to make it more like what I want.
i.e. anyone patching NASCAR 4 or GPL for Super Touring?!  ;-)

In a way, isn't this World Sports Cars? (vapourware, I know...)

I believe WSC will be supplied with minimal tracks/cars by default,
but open-ended enough to allow you to model almost anything.

I guess that some kind of cars/tracks have to be there by default
to get 99% of the typical PC gamers interested.

Look at Sports Car GT... minimal stuff by default, and I'm sure quite
a few non-sim-freaks (!) copies were sold.  But the kind of people who
read this newsgroup produced the extras.
