steering probs.& Win95. Concidence??NO!!

Recently, I have been looking to replace my T-2 with an ECCI extreme
control CDRS steering wheel.  While speaking with a tech. person at
ecci, I explained to him my inability to use my T-2 in win95,
wondering if the ecci would too be a problem.  He then asked me which
version of win95 I was using.  I thought this was a rather strange
question, but did tell him that I was using the newer version of
win95, installed once I found out there was a patched version.  The
way to tell is, look under control panel,  under the system icon, and
on the general tab.  Mine says  4.00.95a.  The original version of
win95 doesn't have anything like the "a" at the end.  It is slightly
different.  I have a buddy who recently bought a gateway pp200, and
even though his number is slightly different, it also is the newer
version.
Anyway, the tech guy said that he knows of many people who he
considers very computer literate, and knows that they too, have been
having problems.  The concidence is that of all of the people who are
having problems, ALL ARE RUNNING THE NEWER VERSION OF WIN95.  He
thought that rather strange, and mentioned that I ought to try to run
a steering wheel on the older version of win95 and see how it ran. He
seemed to think that was the problem.  The next question he had was
what joystick I used.  I replied it was a microsoft sidewinder 3d pro
and it ran great in win95.  He wondered how come it was so convenient
that any microsoft device sets up so easily and runs so well, yet
anyother device not microsoft, is so difficult to set up. Concidence?
I think not.......Any ideas????  Comments??????

The problem with your T2 is most likely that you're not using the axis
convertor.  Win95 (any version) has trouble when it only sees one axis on
Joy1 (the pedals by default are on Joy2), and as a result the wheel will
not work.  The convertor remaps the pedals to Joy1, allowing everything to
work fine.

If you had the OSR2 version of Win95 (rev 4.00.950B, not 4.00.950A which is
the original release plus Service Pack 1 also refered to as OSR1) then you
would run into an interesting problem.  While the wheel and every other
controler would work fine in WIn95, for most people none of them will work
in N2.  Papyrus is well aware of this problem and it should be addressed by
the upcoming patch.

So, is there any way to revert to the a version?? I have a heck of a
time getting my pedals from ch to calibrate as well as the
flightstick. Pedals don't work at all in Monster truck madness, Nascar
1 runs unreliably and nascar 2 won't run at all on my win95 p200, 64
mg ram, 4 mg video setup.

Thanks

Ron

steering probs.& Win95. Concidence??NO!!

snip....
Hey, I appreciate the help, but there is TWO versions of updated
win95.  My original version did NOT have  any letters in the version
numbers.  That is the old version of win95.  The "b" version is not
available for people to purchase, it is only an OEM version.  I
started with the win95 upgrade cd, without any letters, and then added
the latest packet, making it an "a".  Either way, with the original
win95 from cd, or the "a" packet, my steering wheel does NOT work.
The only thing I am somewhat foggy on is whether I tried the steering
wheel in the original win95 with the adapter.  I would have to say I
did, cause I was desperate and trying anything to get it to work.

I have used the gamecard port the entire time always with success in
DOS, but never in windows.  I have followed the advice of the
directions EXACTLY (meaning I have tried WITHOUT SUCCESS) using the
adapter and trying to set up the steering wheel with the proper
settings.  Once I do that, (finially, selecting it is a race car
controller), I click ok, and go back so I can callibrate.  IT WILL NOT
ALLOW CALLIBRATION OR TESTING.  IT IS NOT A CHOICE.  Then, i can
connect my joystick, and it works perfectly. Yet, it tells me that my
device is not working properly when using the wheel. I know that the
game card is good.  I know that the steering wheel is hooked up right
and good (it works in dos, no problem, in EVERY game I run).  I know
that I've done the correct settings for win95.  IT IS BECAUSE OF
WIN95!!!
Sorry, dont mean to vent on you, but Ive gotten desperate, and I KNOW
that my computer and all the settings are set up correctly, and the
problems dont exist in dos.  I cant even get wheel to work in MTM.  It
is not only just Nascar2.

Any further ideas?

Does this mean this problem will be addressed in a later version of
win95?
