Dual Axis wheels... Are they worth it?

by Jay » Sat, 17 Jul 1999 04:00:00

Hi, I'm a bit torn between buying a new FF Wheel for my PC (am currently
running with a 4 year old T2) and have narrowed my search down to two
controllers.

The Logitech Wingman Formula Force and the ACT Labs Force RS...

The LWFF supports dual axis with the pedals (I assume, not having this with
my T2, that this means the break and the throttle are calibrated and
supported separately) whereas the ACT RS does not.

Most reviews I've read say the Act has better FF effects, has a smaller
underdesk support/mounting clamp, so it probably won't interfere with my
keyboard drawer, and has more options/buttons/features/programmability, but
the F1 gearshifters behind the wheel are small and hard to get to. I've also
heard the pedals are better than the LWFF?

I've read that while the LWFF has better shifters, has a smaller footprint
on your desk, and has support for dual axis, but that the pedals suck and is
not as programmable or have as many buttons as the ACT Labs...

So, I guess my question Is: Does a controller with dual axis really make
that much of a difference? Is it worth it?

As this could be the one thing that would sway my decision of which one to
buy....

Thanks for the help!

PS: I'd love to hear from anyone who has personally tried both controllers
to see which one they liked best and why....

I have the Act Labs USB Force wheel and it is great, and it does have both
dual axis and it also can do the seperate mode just by clicking on a button in
the control panel

Yes, it does.  And yes, the ACtLabs supports dual axis, I do believe it was
a driver update only that enabled it.
