Well, whats your favourite driving bit in a film?

my favourite has gotta be that long chase scene in Bullit with Steve
McQueen.

Oooooh.. the sound of the double declutching!  The sound of the tyre
squeels!!

I guess i should watch it again sometime, and record the bit as an mpeg on
the puter!

I liked the chase scenes in Ronin too . Mediocre film but ***y good car
chases. I love the sound of that V8 in Bullitt though . I'm hoping to get my
hands on Le Mans soon . Another classic

Someone's already given the nod to "Ronin", and that'd have to be my
most recent fav, too.  But I like the old comedy "Gumball Rally" -
there's a scene of a 1972 Ferrari Daytona Spyder coming in for a
refueling stop at a gas station (manned, so they say, by the entire
Ferrari GP pit crew!).  There's a nice, windy road leading in to the
station, and the sound of that glorious V12 downshifting from fourth to
first is worth sitting through the rest of the so-so movie!  Also,
there's a cool scene of it racing a Shelby Cobra through the a dry
concrete riverbed somewhere in Long Beach...!

I watch "The Racers" every time it's on for the great scenes of 50's F1 and
Sports Car racing. The shots of the Mille Miglia are priceless.

Other favs are "The Green Helmet", "Two Lane Blacktop", "LeMans", the shots
of Spa in the rain in "Grand Prix", and my all time favorite, "The Speed
Merchants", although it's more of a documentry and would be expected to have
great racing sequences.

Of course. the Miami Vice episode with Danny Sullivan driving a 962 through
the streets of Miami stands alone as the highpoint of motorsports caught on
film....hehe...just kidding<g>

" Follow me boys! While I lay a *** road right to FREE-DOM! " And lots of
KZ1000 Kawasaki's.

I liked Road Warrior too.

" The Car " with James Brolin was on Speedvison last night. Neat movie, but
not great. The car was kinda cool.

Blues Brothers had some great car chases - especially the end with just
PILES of police cars!

Smokey and the Bandit - the first one.

Bullit has to be one of the best. Steve McQueen is The Man.

I don't see this one mentioned often It's called "The Seven Ups". Roy
Scheider(The Police chief from "Jaws") drives ,I believe a green Chevy Nova
on a great 5 min chase that ends with him slamming into the rear of an 18
Wheeler . Great one. Anyone else know this one?

The Ventura is a Nova with an extra set of tail lights for the non-US
guys.  :-)

Pontiac was smart enough to stay quiet when Chevy slapped a Nova badge
on a Toyota Corolla some years later (well, maybe they weren't so
smart, because it was the best built Nova ever, even if it wasn't the
fastest!).

All I can think of when I see a Nova or Ventura is their penchant for
the body slipping crooked on the suspension, causing something
jokingly referred to as "crabbing"... The wheels are going straight,
but the body of the car and driver are looking off at an angle about 5
degrees from straight.

Gone in 60 Seconds.  The 1974 film.

The MOTHER of all car chases...!

You all are forgetting the First feature film by Stephen Spielberg.
A made for TV effort called 'The Duel' with Dennis Weaver.  No highspeed
chases, no door to door banging....but as intense a chase as ever filmed.

It's PDG but kinda cheesy in some spots.  Like the off-road
scene - you're in front of the chased car (Citroen XM) and you
can plainly see the dirt roostertails of the camera car.  And
obvious splices (just before the offroad part is the WORST one
I've seen in *any* movie).  But yeah, it's quite good.

"He's yours."

I still prefer Gone in 60 Seconds.  45 minute car chase with no
obvious splices, no special effects (it was 1974 and one a cheap
budget *then*).  They even had a filming accident, the "lightpole
scene", so they just made it part of the movie.  *That* is rare today.

(hell, the hassle of trying to find this movie is worth it, just to see
the lightpole scene - OUCH!)

Don't forget the obligatory Poncho split grille.

Maybe the most reliable, but I'll still take one of the 1965 SS396
models, anyway..

So true!  It is the strangest thing in the world to drive behind.  You
do have to wonder if you accidentally doubled up on your meds that
day.
