wheel pulling in papy's nascar games...

I have never driven a stock car but everyone will tell you that they pull to
the left. Ok so in my papy games my wheel is***ed to the right going down
the straight. When they show the in car views during the race it is not like
that. the car may be pulling that way but their hands are at the 10:00 and
2:00 position where there should be. In my game my hands would be at 12:00
and say 4:00 which is incorrect.

I think of this everytime I see an in car shot. Anybody have some stock car
experience to shed a light on this. If it is too idiotic of a subject (after
all the Powell-Sandman e***ment) just ignore.

I think you will find that the Winston Cup drivers have a wheel that is
offset.  So that if they were on a flat portion of the track, like the
infield, the wheel would be canted off to the side.  When they get onto the
track, the natural pull of the track banking plus the setup of the car pulls
the wheel and...if they did it right...the wheel will appear straight while
running down the straights.

Their wheels are offset.  Somehow, it could be easily to program this for FF
wheels but there hasn't been any software made by those manufacturers to
make it correctly.

Your solution of putting your hands at a different level is the most
realistic way to approach the situation.

You just have to adust your hand position to match the pull.  They pull left
because the weight is on the left side of the car.  The only turn left
remember.  Take your are out around the road courses.  If setup correctly
they will not pull.  Even weight distribution.

had a feeling they were offset a bit....

Drive off in your N2002 car, turn the wheel clockwise until you're driving
"straight" then re-align your hands on the wheel at the 10 and 2 positions,
so the return spring is now "pulling to the left".

for ultimate realism, remove the wheel from the steering mechanism and put
it back on rotated slightly anticlockwise.

There's several things that cause the car to pull to the left.  Left side
weight being greater than right side weight, tire stagger, springs, and
especially caster split.

I drive a Late Model stock car on the weekends and it pulls left - mostly
due to a 3deg caster split.  I keep my hands about 11 and 3 while driving
but some of the guys reposition their hands for the straights at 10 and 2.
We're not driving on a very big track - 3/8 mile 12 deg asphalt track.  If I
was running on a 1 mile track I'm sure I'd reposition my hands plus I'd use
less caster split too.

You are probably correct in that, except for the fact that when the cars are
going down the straights, the piece of tape on the wheel to indicate the
center position usually is centered.  When they pull into the pits and turn
the wheels straight to allow easier changing of the tires, the tape is again
centered.  So even though the car pulls left on the straight, they only have
to hold it to the center, not turn to the right, IMO of course.

This is because they reposition the wheel on the spline of the steering
shaft so that it is straight when driving straight.
Perhaps N2003 needs an option to allow centering the wheel like this.
