F1 2001 Track Inaccuracies?

I've heard people complain that some of the F1 2001
tracks are inaccurate.

I haven't noticed anything in particular, except for
some wicked bumps at Brazil.  What are the problems?

You've not seen Silverstone on TV have you?

Stowe corner - camber wrong by about 10 degrees.

Exit of Abbey thru to Luffield corner - Bridge corner is renown for a fast
entry down hill - going uphill to Brooklands. Oh no - it's EXACTLY the
opposite in F12001 - uphill to bridge - and downhill to brooklands.

Thats just silverstone.  I gave up keeping track after that.

An easier question to answer would be what is accurate about the tracks in
F12001 ;)

The bumps on all tracks are the main problem for me, some of them look and
feel like they've been hit by earthquakes, and Hungary is just totally
fictional.

Doug, you sure hit the nail on the head for Silverstone ... I was really looking forward to this, having driven a couple other tracks first (ones I knew better in sims), when I first got the game and FIA GT mod.  I was really miffed with, firstly, coming down Hanger Straight into Stowe (WTF!!!) then over the crest to the 90 degree Club Corner ... jeez that wasn't how I remember it when I was driving!!!?!?!!!  Then, the section that you mentioned ... infact I think that Silverstone is one of the worse tracks in F1 2001, IMO! :O)

The only place where I think that the bumps are really realistic are at Austria, they just went a little overboard with Brazil too ... I know that many of the GP drivers were complaining after the last race.

Sure I have, but to me it's just another track.  It's
not one of my favorite tracks, nothing that I would have
studied and compared in detail with its representation
in a sim.  TV coverage makes it look pretty flat, so when
I drive it I have no expectations of altitude changes.
I'm just happy that Monaco descends when going from ***
to Mirabeau.  F1 2000 felt like I was driving uphill and
F1 CS 2000 felt dead level, if memory serves.

   What camber?

Except for GPL and Papy's old Indycar, most F1 and other
road racing games like World Circuit, GP2, and those first 2
Ubi F1 games, F1RS and MCGPS if memory serves, had no road
camber at all.

I remember TV coverage of Ostkurve at Hockenheim.  That
chicane looked like it had some banking.  I just drove it
in F1 2000 and there are dips, which camouflage the fact that
there is no camber at all.  In fact there doesn't seem to be
a single corner with camber anywhere on Hockenheim.  I've
only driven the F1 2001 tracks that have had, or are the
next to have, races, and my favorite, Spa.  I don't remember
any having camber on any curve.

F1 2001 does have banking on the oval at Indianapolis,
where the absence of camber would be an obvious inconsistency.
I have a feeling that camber is a complication that most sim
developers try to avoid.

Perhaps one of the people developing their own sim, or
someone from one of the "Big" sim developers, can comment on
road camber's impact on a sim.

I parked at the approach to Bridge, and rolled backward.
drove through bridge and parked again, and rolled forward,
as you describe.

It sounds like you love Silverstone, and your disappointed.
I'm sorry to hear it.

Doug described the silverstone bridge turn to be downhill to the bridge and
uphill after it...How did you manage to get your car to roll uphill on both
sides of the bridge?  Your car behaved not how he described that it should
be, but how it is in the game...which would make sense, because you are
playing the game (unless you are talking about a road car at the actual
track...and if you are, disregard this message).

   I'm sorry, I didn't make myself clear.  F1 2001 depicts
the Bridge turn as being the high point of the combination,
and I rolled away from it on both sides.  This is the
inaccuracy Doug described.  I don't know Silverstone's
topology, but I accept Doug's description.

Speaking of Brazil, what's the deal with the Ferradura corner?  I can take
it flat out in F1 2001.  I'm guessing that it's related to the excessive
downforce problems in the game?  Has anyone heard if they're going to be
sorting that out as well as the track inaccuracies for F1 2002?

Not to mention that if Silverstone were really like the F1-2001 version,
Schumacher would have never broken his leg as you can go through without
braking...
