Hey all. just cruisin' around I came across the update for the M3 mod for
F1c. Changes a couple of things......fixes Spa CTD and some bonus
stuff..........looks pretty nice.
http://www.racesimcentral.net/;        I am not
affiliated with this site or mod....just a happy user passing along the
news.

F1c M3 update out.

I just tried installing the main download and the patch, but when I
start it from the shortcut it creates, I just get the normal game
starting. Anyone have any ideas?

did you test drive it BEFORE putting the patch in?  Here is a chunk of the
readme.  It sounds like you didn't get the m3config.ini file made properly.

*Installation of BMW M3 Challenge will take around 300MB of Hard Drive
space*

Follow these instructions after you've double clicked M3Challenge.exe pack:

1. Locate F1 Challenge 99-02 folder.

2. Click 'Install' button.

3. The 2002 tracks are copied from the original track folder to M3C track
folder.

4. Shortcut creator will popup and you can make shortcut to your desktop.
If not you can find M3Challenge
   shortcut from the game folder.

5. M3CConfig will launch. First you must click 'INFO' button. Here are some
instructions for setting up and
   running M3C.

-  To make a new player profile please use the M3CProfileCreator.exe which
is located in the game folder.
Once you have made your new player profile play the game and choose your
team and car you want to drive.

NOTE:

If a re-install of BMW M3 Challenge is required then please delete these
files:

Folders/files:

\Audio\M3CMusic
\Audio\Vehicle\M3
\M3CLOG
\M3CMovies
\M3COptions
\M3CReplays
\M3CSave
\M3CSeasonData

Files:

M3CConfig.exe
M3Challenge.ico
M3CProfileCreator.exe

If these files are present:

M3CConfig.ini
M3Challenge.lnk

You can look at M3config.ini and compare it to config.ini.  Both should
be in the main F1 C folder.  About halfway down each file is a line that
reads:
Gridsize=22(or 24)
Make sure that everything BELOW that is the same in M3config as it is in
the original config.ini file.

Once you have the unpatched game working, only THEN apply the patch.

Okay..............if you did what I did before to get around the Spa
problem.......then look inside your F1c folder and see if you have 2
folders. M3season and M3 seasondata. If you do.........copy the contents of
the seasondata folder into your M3 season folder....or vice
versa..........or rename your M3 season to M3 seasondata and reinstall. I
copied all the files over and it works fine for me.....give it a try. I am
guessing this is what has happened. The default install location is the
M3seasondata folder.

This step seems to be the problem. I now have it working by
reinstalling the full version, running game, then installing the
patch. Thanks.

It is a pretty impressive mod, it makes a nice change of pace, the
lack of brakes compared to an F1 car takes a bit of getting used to
:-)

F1c M3 update out.

This is an impressive piece of work...I didn't try the F12002 version.

Are there set-ups for this...or are the Grip and Country ones OK...I am not
even sure if they are for M3 or whether it is looking into the regular
folders and seeing the F1C set-ups.

The inability to lock the brakes is a bit exaggerated and it feels like
there is a light layer of grease on the ground...but otherwise very nice.  I
am hoping the first two complaints can be resolved with good set-ups...?

For my driving style they most definitely are not...haven't noticed if they
are just f1 setups but my laptimes have definitely dropped...the cars in
general feel way too tight with an out of the box setup.

Brakes?  maybe raise the pressure setting?  i swear i've locked mine up a
few times.
