Would somebody please tell Widows that I have some new CH Pedals!

I unpacked my new CH Pedals yesterday to replace the less than stellar
pedals on the Logitech Wingman Formula Force USB.

I plugged the (turned the machine off first of course) pedals into the
joystick port on the Soudblaster Live, and tried to add the new controller
in the Windows Control panel applet.

I made sure the Car/Plane switch on the pedals was set to Car.

I tried several different choices, none of which would get any response from
the pedals.

I removed the LWMFF and tried again, with the same results.

I installed the CH Pilot/Pilot Pro drivers on the provided diskette, which
added the Pilot and Pilot Pro to the list of controllers, but they would not
communicate with the port either.

I unplugged the pedals and plugged in my trusty Thrustmaster Joystick, which
was recoginized immediately, and worked fine.

Is there something else I should try, or did I get a set of bad pedals?

Thanks in advance.

Brad

Make sure you have a gameport listed in Control Panel/System/Device Manager.
If not, try using the Add Hardware wizard to install it...

Come to think of it, you _might_ be able to create a custom controller setup
(just select '[Custom...]' in the 'Add Game Controller' dialog list), if the
CH pedals are dual axis.  You won't get the benefits of any CH-specific
driver settings, but you should be able to calibrate just fine.  Let us know
if that works!

You need to plug in the _complete_ controller for windows to see it, i.e.
the CH wheel needs to be plugged in, too.  At least, that was the case with
my TM Nascar Pro pedals.

Hoosier 6,

Yes, I have a "Creative Gameport Joystick" listed under "Creative
Miscellaneous Devices" in System properties.

As I stated in my original post, my Thrustmaster Joystick works fine when I
plug it into the same port.

Todd,

If THAT is the case, my only option would be to wire the pedals to the LWMFF
wheel.

I want to try them and see if I like them, before I blow the warranty on
both products!

Todd,

I tried creating custom setups, but they won't communicate with the pedals
either.

Todd, you're saying that you MUST have a ch wheel if you want to use
ch pedals?

ok, this is what you have to do (same thing happened to me)

you have to plug your old wheel (or maybe a joystick or anything) into the
'Y' cable of the CH pedals, or they won't be recognized. I'd imagine this is
because of the correct # of axis channels or something (made no sense to
me...)

then you can select the 'CH virtual pilot' as your pedals. i don't think it
matters if it's listed as the 1st or 2nd device in the game controllers
screen.

let us know if this works for you (it does for me; i have my GP1 plugged
into the Y cable.)

As Mark said, you have to plug SOMETHING into the Y-cable of the pedals -
otherwise Windows thinks that there's something wrong with the controller
and won't let you configure it.  I assume this is because the pedals are on
the "second" joystick axis, and Windows wants to see something on the first
pair of axis before it'll check the second pair.  This explains why Brad
could configure the pedals as a "Custom Controller."  It doesn't necessarily
have to be a CH wheel, it could probably be any old joystick.

Try connecting your Thrustmaster joystick through the CH pedals.

Thanks Mark!

I plugged my Thrustmaster joystick into the CH Pedals, and Windows detected
the new controller.

Launch GPL, up comes the controller config screen, and hey! there's a new
little arrow on the lower right corner of the axis display, leading to a new
axis display for the 2nd controller.

Just came back to say thanks, it's all sorted out, now I'm off to try 'em
out.

Brad

Now I'm off to see how they work.
